That's the entire point about the critique by feminists on attractive female characters.
Its not about what's realistic, its just about the halo effect, Superman is super handsome, and its hard to be that when fat.
1. Not everyone gets fat. Some people can laze around all day and still won't put on any noticeable weight (diet and genetics can both play a role here).
2. (Irregardless of #1) If Superman physically (as opposed to by 'pure magic') has incredibly strong muscles then they still require energy to maintain & use. He's going to be burning calories every time he exerts himself in any form physically - be it big or small (this may include things such as shooting lasers from his eyes too). In fact, doing any of what he does as Superman should require an absolutely tremendous amount of energy. If he isn't just 'magicing-up' all of his energy, what you should really be wondering is 'Why isn't Superman severely emaciated from his body's energy needs?'. His 'calorie usage' should be utterly impractical unless he's chugging down some jet fuel or munching on plutonium rods for breakfast.
3. While (worth noting) its easier to maintain than to build, questions about how he maintains his muscle may be relatively fair though. But he would certainly still have some muscle just from the fact that he uses them (even if he doesn't break a sweat).
I join OP and say he should be a fatty.

What I'm saying is that, he can't burn calories because he can't exercise due to super strength. In order to get into shape, you have to have muscle tearing. How exactly does a super human tear their muscles? How would someone who can easily lift a planet, exert themselves into being able to make gains?
He should either be fat or super skinny, but buff? No.
