I bought my own GameCube(DOL-001 for those that know...) and Wii.
It seems Nintendo's new consoles are just better(questionable) machines to run their older games. Its still quality, but I still have my older games.
I ran it into the ground. Two replacement power supplies and three replacement fans. Eventually it started crashing in games. I think something went wrong with the motherboard. I had long since violated the warranty and had opened it up half a dozen times to replace parts, so who knows what broke. Got over 10 years out of it.
