The first one that made an impression on me was Left 4 Dead, for the time, I think it was fantastic and also being chased by these things was unnerving, especially during a horde attack, they were usually slow and could be picked off one-by-one. This was thrown right out the window with Left 4 Dead, they were now fast and attacked in a group.

Project zomboid. Yes, it is pixel graphics, but there is a lot of love for detail, you even need to monitor the blood pressure level in the presence of zombies

Agreed Zomboid got a lot of specific details gameplay wise, NMRIH also probably the most realistic fps zombie game afaik.

Project Zomboid feels like what a zombie apocalypse would actually be like. You have to scavenge for food, find shelter, find weapons, etc

Anything from The Walking Dead franchise although the depiction is based on the comic/TV show. I never thought zombies should be able to run unless they are as fresh as World War Z i.e. a decayed body would just fall apart. But it is fictional...
