What is Carry On Columbus (1992)?
Carry On Columbus is a 1992 comedy film and is the 31st and final film of the Carry On films. (Not to be confused with NETFLIX's Carry-On)
The Carry On films is a British film institution series that consisted of comedy films that were often low budgeted and made at Pinewood Studios.
In the series' original run from 1958-1978, the franchise had brought some names into popularity such as Kenneth Williams, Sid James and Barbra Windsor.
The films' comedy includes usual comedy jokes as well as some jokes you can't get away with nowadays.
By the 1970s the franchise had stalled because of most of the regulars leaving and the comedy becoming outdated.
Carry On Emmannuelle (1978) was the last Carry On film of the series' original run, being the only carry on film to be released to a mature audience and was a failure critically and financially.
14 years later, Carry On Columbus was released and mixed familiar faces by the likes of Bernard Cribbins and Jim Dale, with new alternative comedians such as Rik Mayall and Julian Clairy.
On a budget of £2.5 million it made only £1.7 million, making it a box office failure and killed any chance of a Carry On revival.
Also the film received negative reviews from critics and was voted the worst British film on the Guardian back in 2004.
The film was never released on DVD or Blu-Ray, it was only released on VHS. (Despite an Australian Bootleg DVD copy from 2006.)
Here's the trailer to get your thoughts on it.

True fact, the guy who played the representitive from China in Carry On Columbus went on to play the role of Entwistle in Last of the Summer Wine (1973-2010)

I really liked him in Fire Warrior 40k game he was a Tau.

His voice set the tone .
Nigel Planner is also in this, this was two years after he was in the pilot to the American version of the Young Ones (1982-1984), entitled "Oh No! Not Them!" which has become a piece of lost media.
Planner had an awful time in America and didn't get along well with his co-stars, and supposedly Oh No, Not Them's pilot was so horrible, a series was never greenlit at all.

My brother actually said "Carry On Columbus is definately the Monty Python's the Meaning of Life of the films" due to how high budgeted it is compared to the other films being low budgeted.
Meaning of Life came out in 1983, BTW.
Have to check it out, I've never seen before. Thanks for the information.
Be nice to have a good chuckle, all things considering heavy metal health or mental health seems to be failing a bit off the rocker these days.
Plus it's fun history, I don't get enough of classic satire, my satire rears into dark places, should be a light reader instead.

You're welcome @LeviathanWon
Apparently, Bernard Bresslaw and Barbra Windsor put together a stage show in 1992, against the wishes of Peter Rodgers and Gerald Thomas called "Wot a Carry On in Blackpool!"
At least that's from what I've heard, I could be wrong.
Believe it or not, Sara Crowe was actually Jim Dale's daughter in law at the time.
The end credits song is the best part of the whole movie.
