If Steam Impliments a Real-ID requirement would you still use it?
Morality Laws are on the rise in Western countries.

Rules and laws monitoring what people do online, many in the name of protecting children.
Its a very likely future that Steam and all online services will require a real-id requirement where your public persona is also the one you are linked to online.

Would this affect your use of Steam?

why would they need my ID? they have my credit card number...

like... how much of my personal information do you need?!

I still haven't given gaben my cell number ffs... don't even have a cellphone anymore actually so probably good I didn't or someone could claim my old number and impersonate me...

Real Id would mean your public facing identity would be required to be exposed to utilize the service.

You wouldn't be kingjames488, you would be Chad Monkeysmith..

I wouldn't use it if it made me display my real name. I like being anonymous.

Steam has pornographic material.
Many US states and European countries are cracking down on open usage of that kind of content. This is a real possiblility that is coming down the pipeline.

Keep in mind Steam is a US company and the United states is moving to Christian Nationalism.
Your photo gets scanned, put into a databass spmewhere, shared with "partners"

One of those partners gets hacked, ai fake hacker uses all the info out there to start buying stuff with your face and id.
no? I’m not gonna show my government issued id with all my personal information on it to people working at a gaming platform; it’s a gaming platform! not a bank. there’s no purpose for it.

No. Getting bored of steam as is, if it becomes too much hassle I'll uninstall.

If I go to the local shop and i want to buy one bread and they ask me for an ID.... In that case for sure. I'll show ID to everyone who asks. Otherwise bad things happen.

But since that's not the case, then no. No ID for my local shop, No ID for Steam either.
