That is why 99 44/100% of comedy shows are filmed in front of a live audience. But they are still prompted when they are supposed to laugh.
i liked old sitcoms

thats not old sitcoms to me, old sitcoms to me is I love lucy, taxi, bewitched, I dream of jeanie, the munsters, etc

seinfeld and big bang to me, is modern
There are good shows with laugh tracks.
Would they still be better without them, though? Absolutely.

Media in general is sadly always going to be saturated with dead trends that production companies still believe are necessary, because all the execs are dinosaurs
Mr Bean was pretty funny. Still holds up to this day.
Didn't older shows use live audiences? Do they like tell them when to laugh or is it natural?
An early psychological manipulation experiment. Shows have moved on to more sophisticated methods of coercing the tribal identity and security parts of the unconscious mind to form certain associations.

But yeah, the act and attempt itself is shameful and extremely ugly. But it's also a glaring display of what television and radio really are. One of the first tests the BBC did was to see if you could induce hypnotic trance in people over the radio with a live operator, then they tested if it could be done with recordings. Both worked. Some people went into trance merely by being told a hypnotic method was going to be used, and no such method was used. Still worked.

The OP video shows that such illusions are basically pure evil.

used to be, but even when things were objectively not funny they'd force laughs with either audience prompts or recorded laughs from actual funny moments

Pretty much everything modern is a forced prompt laugh or prerecorded laugh

They might've been recorded in front of a live studio audience, but their laughs usually weren't added into the show -- usually they still masked over with the pre-recorded ones, but kept the "live audience" disclosure because it was technically true just to sell the illusion of tribal social pressure

Sometimes there are shows, there the producers absolutely did not want a laugh track, but it was forced on them by the network or studio.

MASH is one example, where the producers were adamant, that there would be no laugh track during the operating rooms scenes. For the rest, the track was forced on them. On the DVD release there is an audo option without canned laughter.

Sledge Hamer was another one, where the creator absolutely despised the laugh track. The DVD release comes completely without it, just as the show was intended. Interestingly enough, the German dubbed version did NOT contain the laugh track, even though at that time it was common to use the one from the original or create a "localised" laugh track with "German" laughter.

Frasier is an example of a show, that is witty, intelligent and very funny, but the studio insisted on a laugh track. There are several episodes, where large sections are without canned laughter, because the situation depicted was tragic or bitter-sweet. I think Frasier is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time and without canned laughter it would clearly be my number one.

Laugh tracks are an insult to the audiences intelligence and often show-runners agree, but they don't have enough power to change it.

Don't get me wrong, each show will have its diamonds and ♥♥♥♥♥

A good example is the Seinfeld episode where they all make bets about who'd go the longest without masturbating

It's timestamped, watch the whole segment

Would be a lot better without the laugh track though
