Steam VS Discord
I'm surprised that Discord took off more than Steam being that you can do a lot of similar stuff with one another. I love Discord to death but with how popular steam is, I've often wondered who uses the steam communications features other than to basically PM one another. There are group chats but I found out you cant just delete a group chat, you have to kick EVERYONE. Which I think is a bit stupid.

I've never used the VC on Steam, how is it tbh?

It's okay. I used it to play AoE2 with some friends a few times.

I prefer Steam VC because I don't want to use third-party applications.
The few times I've used steams, it always cut out after about 1h, were as discord I never had an issue with it going on for longer then 6h.
Steam chat stinks.

As horrible as steam chat may be, at least it can be more reliable than discord

Both are insecure and harvesting your data

If security or privacy isn't a concern for you, the differences are negligible

I rarely have issues with discord, maybe the occasional outage. but that happens like every 6 months. Last year was weird with it

yeah but your average user isn't going to think about it, remember like a good 80% of people here likely have a twitter, facebook, tumblr, name any type of social media and I bet you they have it and they wonder, "Why am I getting ads for warhammer on my front page?"

Steam has a voice chat system?

Huh. Learn something everyday.

I still think it's incredibly dystopian that people pay to get spied on

"Here's your phone which connects to pretty much every available network on earth! It has a microphone, retina scanner, fingerprint scanner, 360 degrees of vision, infrared sensors, GPS, thermometer, and speedometer"

The 3 letter agencies when they realised that they could just sell the bugs to people:

Discord is the worse platform i have experienced since the dawn of the internet. I thought twitter was bad with its shortened message format, but the constant ADHD scrolling of Discord is really on another level of Borg-ness. Even signing up to the thing is awkward and dysfunctional.

true but if they do then they know they are deep sh!t. they can't legally do anything. Even if you're stabbing someone and the gov is spying on you, they have to have outside proof because that would be consider "Invasion of privacy" But this is the gov we are talking about so they'd find a way around it

>Twitter is bad
Funny you say that because in the last couple of years, my twitter went to from borderline depressing hate speech to cutesy animals, my GA stuff, and more. Somehow my twitter has become chaotic good if that makes sense

>discord is bad because
This is problem with a lot of people and tell them all the time to stop joining a million communities because a lot of them are hug boxes and this shenanigans happens. This is why I only join communities that are full of helpful smartass'. Either way the biggest problem I have is when I join a community and they have a lot of arbitrary rules that make no sense at all.

1 discord said, "anything deemed controversial to the mods can be deleted" you could barely speak in the discord without a mod going, "Remember this is the 16+ section!"

You have to show ID to them to get in. Even if the rest of the ID is blurred out and only my date of birth is there, you're not getting that from me. A lot of people agreed with me it's also illegal too. No online community should be asking for ID. RUN.
