Now that the creator of Astartes works for GW I worry that Astartes 2 will suck. GW will probably find a way to either ruin it or put it behind a paywall like their garbage GWTV streaming service. Astartes is the best fan made video I have ever seen to this day.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ truth right here. i'm also worried that we will witness hot garbage because GW is gonna play daddy with the creational liberties of that guy. the 1st one is still to this day one of the best fan services out there, too much of a good work (in the end the shrapnel that Astartes receives on their left side is from a Dark Eldar shardcarbine or splinter rifle.)

I was gonna ask you a question in private, but that didn't pan out so I'll ask it here. Did you watch the secret level Space Marine 2 video? I heard it was made by the guy who made Astartes, but I thought the whole video was boring. It really felt like a GW production. The long "stoic" pauses and the enemies coming in waves really ruined it compared to Astartes where it felt like a full on fluid assault. Especially when the heretic guardsmen rolled out heavy lazgun and shot the marines from across that gap and seeing the dents it put in the marines armor.

Secret level's video just felt like sanitized fan service. Of course all the comments are supportive and people loved it just because it was WH40k, but I didn't care for it. Even the sorcerer just freezing time was kind of lame. I know he didn't really freeze time, only in their minds he did, but it just felt long and drawn out. The dialogue also felt cookie cutter to me. It's weird that a fan made video from years ago is still way better than an actual GW production and that's what worries me about Astates 2. Between the new edgy factions and their flashy paint schemes and just the simple fact that GW is behind the production makes me worry greatly. Not just for Astartes 2, but for everything coming after.

They are allegedly already working on Space Marine 3 even though they just released SM2. It looks like GW's approach is to just bombard the fan base with new mediocre content over and over again. Actual quality I fear will be the thing of the past. It will be a sad day when fans hunger for the GW of old over the GW of new. Especially seeing as their entire history has been mostly garbage.

ah yes pardon this my friend but i only add people i know in real life, strict policy of mine nothing personal of course.

actually no i didn't watch that video yet tbh, but it wouldn't be that much of a surprise considering recent GW really has a fetish for watering things down, i dont know why. this goes back all the way to Matt Wardian levels of lude heresy of pen and parchment. now that you mention it i will check it out just out of curiocity. SM3 smells milking if that is the case, SM2 just got out and it's fresh from the oven, and they're already planning the third one? that's milking.

edit: consider how many years passed before DoW3 landed, DoW2 required 4 expansions before even the mere thought of the third started to take shape.

No worries about the invite, I understand your position. According to google Focus Entertainment did indeed announce that Space Marine 3 is now in production. Saber says they will continue support for SM2 for a year. Saber really ran SM2 into the ground though. They have made terrible game play choices along with making special chapter champions the wrong type of marine. For instance the Salamander champion is for the sniper class, which isn't very canon. They have done this with multiple champions now.

I think GW is really trying hard to push into digital media instead of improving the tabletop game. GW was never really been too hip on digital gaming and such, but I think they finally realize that video games and fan service videos print money. Their GWTV streaming service I think is the harbinger of what is to come. Just mass produced digital slop under strict control of GW itself. I think we can expect a boring WH40k universe from now on instead of an exciting Astartes type universe.

The secret level Space Marine 2 video wasn't terrible, but it's not memorable either. It just feels like a throwaway fan service video. It really felt like they were trying too hard with it and it just turned out mediocre compared to Astartes. It feels as if nothing will top the original Astartes at this point.

at first when Astartes was launched it was thought that the guy behind it would definitely get a job with GW, it was even circulating that this is why he did the Astartes in the first place, to score the job there. but i always thought that if he stayed independent and simply made stuff for him and the community that it would be better because the community itself is criticising heavily GW and it is well understood as to why it's done so.

i mean compare the late 90s codices to what came out later on. 1st and 2nd ed Dark Eldar are dark as it gets, Necrons 1st and 5th ed are the epitome of grimdark. then you have some guy coming up with the Primaris Space Marines, 8th and 9th ed Drukhari along with the release of DoW3 which still after all these years cannot surpass DoW2 because they took the glorious rts and turned into a moba.

the way i see it is that somewhere around 2017-2018 (8th ed) GW took a really cynical turn towards money and money only and ditch the community, the turn towards digital was in part to really make the hobby accessible to more people (thus maximizing the possible profit revenue for sold units, paints and scenery and of course Black Library sales with codices included), from what has come out so far from the 40k universe i have only really bought and possess a tiny fraction of the games (DoW2, Inquisitor Martyr + Prophecy, Spacehulk Deathwing), wanted to get SM1 and 2 but i think i'll pass for the time being personally.

but it's good to actually acknowledge the dark sides of hobbies specially for newer people into them so they can get a better grip of where exactly they wish to delve and how to do it more efficiently for their time and money invested in it.

just watched the video from SM as well, typical ultrasmurf propaganda and the guy from Astartes was definitely in it i believe, the Astartes project is more "to the core" of being a Space Marine other than an ultrasmurf. like the Lamenters or Ravenguard or even better, the black ops of the Marines like Deathwatch which i always loved.

Did you know they made figures for Space Marine 2? It's like the game was created to sell Ultra mehren figures. I wonder if it will be a new trend. GW releases new digital content, makes limited edition figures, sells them to people who are foaming at the mouth and hungry for WH40k stuff. I'm really thinking GW is going down the Magic the Gathering route. Magic the Gathering released limited edition cards called "Secret Lairs" which they only print x amount. Interesting enough, MTG actually did a WH40k "Secret Lairs" release that was limited edition.

So I'm really starting to wonder if they are going to adopt that method to selling their stuff in the future. I think I've seen GW put out limited edition figures before, so I guess it would be nothing truly new, just worse. I don't like the new stuff they have made. Renaming the Imperial guard and then creating those new Astra Militarum figures just.....I dunno they look lame. The Grey Knights now being Knights within a Knight within another Knight is also lame. The new stuff is a huge miss for me. The only good thing I like that has happened is that the Blood Ravens are officially in the lore as an actual chapter. Also the Death Korps look very cartoony compared to the figures made by that other company I forgot the name of.
