It's not about the money. Supposedly Fantasia was used for mind control scripting, and that was a box office failure as well. Disney isn't a wage slave, at their level the agenda is broader than just a strictly monetary return on investment. ie, their cost model is not built around "trading my time and resources for money". It's far more ecological than that, big picture.

It is also Disney's fault for mismanaging Zegler and her Agent. I read that a Disney executive flew to New York to speak to her about her behavior a few months ago and that Disney found the results of that meeting disappointing. I'm sure that they know that she has contributed to the movie's tragic performance, hopefully that behavior will be taken into consideration when future projects are offered to her (if they are), I'm sure that she has shot her future earning potential in the foot.
