Vance’s team ‘pleading with Greenland residents’ to meet VP and wife

US representatives canvassed door-to-door in Greenland as part of a “charm offensive” to sound out whether residents would welcome a visit from Usha Vance, it has been claimed.

The second lady and one of her sons had been set to visit the Danish territory this week after Donald Trump continued to inflame tensions by announcing it should come under US control.

Ahead of her visit, staffers reportedly spent a week traipsing around Nuuk, the capital city, to gauge the feeling among residents.

“The Americans’ charm offensive mission has failed,” Jesper Steinmetz, a reporter for TV 2, said.

“They have finally understood what the Greenlanders here in town have been trying to tell them for a little over a week: ‘We don’t want visitors right now’,” he said.

Mr Steinmetz added Americans had been “deployed” in Nuuk and were “knocking on doors and ringing doorbells” to ask if residents would welcome a visit from Mrs Vance.

“They’ve gotten no, no, no, no, no, every single time,” he said.

The claims are at odds with the vice-president’s comments earlier this week, when he announced he would join his wife on the trip.

“There was so much excitement around Usha’s visit to Greenland this Friday that I decided that I didn’t want her to have all that fun by herself and so I’m gonna join her,” he said.

t comes after Mette Frederiksen, Denmark’s prime minister, accused the US of putting “unacceptable pressure” on Greenland and Denmark.

Mr Vance’s visit, which was initially set to include Mike Waltz, was branded “aggressive” by Greenland’s prime minister.

Mute B Egede told local media: “What is the US national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.

“His mere presence in Greenland will no doubt fuel American belief in Trump’s mission — and the pressure will increase.

“We are now at a point where it can no longer be described as an innocent visit from a politician’s spouse... the international community must now react.”

Mr Vance said leaders in Denmark and North America had “ignored” Greenland for “far too long”.

Nice to see Greenlanders putting Americans in their place, USA really has no friends now. No one wants them, maybe western countries can start deporting Americans.

How much taxpayer money was wasted on this "charm offensive"?

Clearly not enough.

How much will the tax payer pay for the bribes that will follow.
If that fails then comes industrial bribes.
After that smear campaign or flood the area with propaganda.
Eventually us bases for Greenland's protection.
Ha ha

All too real an answer.

Sad times we live in when "debt is good" since "inflation will make past debt smaller" mindset.

We just need to saddle Greenland with our debt so we can take its natural resources cheap, China needs more lumber after all....

I like this "bloodless Big Politics" more than wars and deaths of young people. Trump will offer them one sum, they will not agree, more money can be given. After all, the Arctic is ahead, which Denmark will not be able to develop on its own.

"bloodless big politics" like threatening canada and greenland with annexation? no matter how much donald claims he can be "taking them financially", do you believe the people of canada and greenland will accept such?
This expansionist, manifest destiny mindset will only work out if the USA takes over the whole world.

That may make "America Great again" for some, but I don't think the road to getting there will be easy or bloodless.

All we are doing currently is pushing people to BRICs, polarization that will end in war or surrender. I don't see freedom surviving this.

Who's stopping them from asking this after Trump offers them something substantial?

Possibly.

If China and Russia and the USA all agree to end ownership and keep the slave population up to service them. China and Russia are already there, the USA just has to join the gang.

Sometimes I wonder if that isn't the whole plan seeing how our "trickle down" economic policy of unlimited earning by the rich while adding to the national debt and having no responsibility for the debt they create is moving the economy.

I would be a lot better off financially if the insurance company paid what they should have rather than dumping me on social security disability years ago. You get bought out and forced into the system to cover the loss of the corporation. Make public the loss and private the gains. Yet owe the people nothing. Our economy is doomed at this rate... even if we take over the world there is a limit to how much we can expand.

That is why you see such a need to make people procreate, they need to leach the value out of more and more lives to keep up with "forever expand" to keep up with the debt.

Madness

Responses like this make me sometimes question how I haven't added you to the same list as Poutine and Storyteller and just stopped paying any attention to you but I guess you have some good takes sometimes, :mrp: E.
99% of the forum doesn't pay attention to me. That used to really bother me, but I've become too old and jaded to give a ♥♥♥♥ anymore.

my country is having sore relations with usa because of how much we sacrificed for them in their middle east wars, only to be abandoned in return.

it is infuriating to be seeing usa take on an extreme isolationist stance after so much has transpired in its history.
General rule of thumb for being fair with international politics :

Hate the governments of other countries but not all the people.

In democratic countries, the governments are a result of the majority of the people (although 1/3 don't even vote (nor run for office themselves) but that's what is known as "apathy" and is part of the problem), however, even with the majority agreeing with or allowing the government to go bad in some way, somewhere - there's still the people who are just unfortunate enough to be born there or stuck living there that don't agree and aren't in great circumstances themselves.

i generally do, but i admit many of the americans i meet online make it very, very difficult with their venomous comments. i understand many peoples of usa are tired of their money going to international affairs, but the downright bloodthirsty and cruel attitudes i see from many americans online now are disturbing. it is difficult not to feel a little "on the defence".

i know however, that there are many kind peoples in usa. who do not wishing for deteriorating relationships with allies, and who are still good people not agreeing with what their government is doing.

Do you prefer red wine or white wine? Some soft music perhaps?
