75% of US scientists who answered Nature poll consider leaving
The massive changes in US research brought about by the new administration of President Donald Trump are causing many scientists in the country to rethink their lives and careers. More than 1,200 scientists who responded to a Nature poll — three-quarters of the total respondents — are considering leaving the United States following the disruptions prompted by Trump. Europe and Canada were among the top choices for relocation.

The trend was particularly pronounced among early-career researchers. Of the 690 postgraduate researchers who responded, 548 were considering leaving; 255 of 340 PhD students said the same.

What kind of research were they doing?

If its mRNA or mutilation stay out of canada.

What if they just wanted to study gain of function on bat viruses instead? That's illegal in the US so they have to do it somewhere else.

its never mattered what is legal in this country......companies have always done what they want knowing it would be a joke fine if found out......the DOJ is such a joke they cant admit what treason is anymore......

Yeah, sure, the people who made a career knowingly skimming from taxpayers on projects they knew were ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are soooooooooooooo principled.

Who are these scientists? The ones from the public sector and some of the people who graduated humanitarian subjects?
kbiz 27 MAR a las 19:21
Exactly, what are their fields of study?

Climate change. Renewable energy plankton farmers. Maybe a couple of high minded physicists with wacky ideas that dont mean anything?

Thatd be my first guess.

My guess is they polled the ones protesting.

This isn't good for US, only time will tell how this will impacts the US research and education sector, I certainly wouldn't want to live or teach in the US in its current state.

Although it doesn't specify, Nature is one of the world's largest and most prestigious academic journals.

Nature is a British weekly scientific journal founded and based in London, England. As a multidisciplinary publication, Nature features peer-reviewed research from a variety of academic disciplines, mainly in science and technology. It has core editorial offices across the United States, continental Europe, and Asia under the international scientific publishing company Springer Nature.

Nature was one of the world's most cited scientific journals by the Science Edition of the 2022 Journal Citation Reports (with an ascribed impact factor of 50.5),[1] making it one of the world's most-read and most prestigious academic journals.[2][3][4] As of 2012, it claimed an online readership of about three million unique readers per month.[5]

The question they asked (found under the link in the original post) could be a bit leading though, which could prompt more of the ones actually planning to leave to be more prone to reply, but the numbers are still pretty overwhelming.

So if they were in it for the $ only and were backing any climate warming / change nonsense... Good riddance, the EU and canada can have them.

MAGAs would be happy since they're so uneducated they think these scientists are the ones faking their papers anyway.

the united states no longer values education, research, or intelligence. so why would any of them stay? plenty of great opportunities elsewhere.
