Dawn of Cyberpunk Dystopia
I’ve been wondering lately - are we at the dawn of a cyberpunk dystopian era, like something straight out of Strange Days or Blade Runner?

AI’s everywhere, neural interfaces are inching ever closer and megacorporations alongside multinational quangos seem to have more sway than our governments.

Surveillance is a constant, cybercrime’s is largely unpoliced and we’ve got drones being utilised actively in warfare, crypto and the development of the metaverse. From a High-tech checklist? I say we are clearly at the dawn of one.
But the dystopia/Low Life part? How close are we? Income gaps are brutal - reality being most people here will likely never own a home, cities are sprawling alongside climate change issues.

What do you think? Are we in a proto-cyberpunk phase, or is this just sci-fi hype?

I thought it'd make for an interesting discussion.

As someone who has been to the past, the future always looks like the present.

To me, we already are in a cyberpunk era.

That Coke billboard in Bladerunner was shocking to see on the big screen, now every damn billboard in town is a video screen.

I would be inclined to agree.

I do personally think we've entered the Cyberpunk era and things will only really progressively decline here on out whilst our technology may well improve (which will likely serve the state.)
