Who really wins in a marriage where
One partner dies?

The person who got to be married until death, never being alone, never being unsupported.

Or

The person still alive, because they are still alive.

-Why do most husbands die before their wives?
-They want to.

-Why is divorce so expensive?
-It's worth it.

neither. but i can say that i personally would rather go first, even if my partner mourned me. on the other hand, death is final.

but recovering from grief is possible, even with horrifically traumatising things like losing your partner. one of my aunts passed away when i was younger, and my uncle tried his hardest to remain happy.

he mentioned that he would not seek love again "because he had already met the love of his life". but that capitulating to despair is not what his best friend would be wanting either.

Depends on how old they are. If we're both in our 40's I would rather live. If we're both in our 70's I would rather go first.
Marriage on the rocks be like.

I couldn't take it any longer
Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
Like a tidal wave
I started swearing to my God and on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!
So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do
Praying for the end of time,
So I can end my time with you!

I always think that death in the long run is easier for the person who's died. Whilst if you know that you are dying can be scary, once you are gone, you are gone. Whilst those who are left behind have to deal with the mourning , and although in time the pain can soften, it never truly goes.

The first example - The one who's alive has things considerably more difficult even due to the potential partners distancing themselves from the person who's now alone, and there could be numerous reasons behind that, some being actually pretty reasonable.

black window win in scenario 1, sexy single lady can farm people to get their money

true love win in scenario 2, especially true if they have children

The real winners are the Church and Government who make the money on this irrelevant custom.

It's not the death, it's the getting there. Imagine slowly dying in prison or in a prison camp. There is something appealing about quick and painless.

That said, if I were hit by a bus tomorrow, I would want my person to celebrate the life we had together and then go find somebody else. Life is too short not to.

Chad always wins your wife will call him up after you die

I dont think its about winning its more about commitment, but it is sad in both aspects tbh. You dont want to leave your wife/husband alone and you dont want to see them pass before you do.
