A short reading of what is each character like made me think of Nami as my favorite.
But, if I were to actually get deeper..?
Not a chance that I would know.. I haven't watched a single episode yet!

What was the trigger to convincing me that it's Nami was a person describing her as a kind and caring individual, someone who cares and meddles into the relationship affairs with the intention to keep people together instead of hating each other.
The introducing description also stated of her to be obsessed with money..

Yeah, you could say that I do see a part of my current personality that I absolutely love and am happy for being that kinda person.. :tsundere:

I mean, One piece was a nice show when I was a kid, but now it's a cheap copy paste anime with zero taste
- usopp and nami are my favourite strawhats. i love "weak" cowardly characters in fiction, but both of them still consistently prove they are not nearly as weak or cowardly as they act.

- blackbeard is my favourite antagonist. he is a great parallel to luffy, and probably one of the only "true pirates" in the series.

- big mom is my favourite yonko by a lot. her backstory was incredibly disturbing, and her power during whole cake island was utterly terrifying to be seeing at that point in the story. she seemed completely unbeatable.

- katakuri is probably my favourite of luffys rivals. he is a more tragic character, and his final line about possibly seeing luffy as the pirate king gave me chills. also luffy covering katakuris mouth out of respect because he knows it is a sore spot for him is touching.

- doffy. because he is such a deranged, vile antagonist. oda makes some truly loathsome, cruel antagonists that are a ton of fun to hate.

- perona. her power is broken as hell, and she is just a generally very fun antagonist. her fight against usopp is one of my favourites in the series.

- spandam for the same reason as doffy. vile, cruel, psychopathic. incredibly satisfying villain to utterly despise, so awful that even all of his own allies hated him. robin snapping his spine like a twig is one of the most satisfying things in one piece.

Character writing is not the best in One Piece imo but I like Trafalgar Law und Nico Robin the most.

Though after the time skip Robin's design and writing got so much worse. She was badass before the time skip, especially in Alabasta arc
Popular opinion but Zoro. Also because of the fact that he is voiced by Christopher Sabat.
Favorite in general: Zoro, its a boring answer but its true, he's funny, he's cool, he's never boring. I wish he was still as funny as in early seasons but oh well.

Favorite underrated: Kurahadol. If there's a single weak character that I want to see rise high, its this one.
Ulti best op waifu

i will admit i really love arlong and buggy, and they are my favourite east blue antagonists. but kuro is also great, and besides morgan is probably the first example of a truly evil, loathsome character in the series.

The thing about those is that we got to see them again, Arlong being somewhat humanized/fishinized or whatever (not that he's redeemable after what he did), Buggy being actually a really significant character, but as far as I recall Kuro is nowhere to be seen. I loved his stupid way of adjusting glasses and the way he looked.

yeah arlong appears heavily in flashbacks during fishman island, and buggy as you said is just a very major character overall throughout the whole series.

kuro in the manga makes no more appearances after syrup village, though i believe he gets a brief cameo in the anime looking at a wanted poster of luffy after a bounty raise.
i have never heard of this show
does it air over here?

wow really!? yeah, it does. it is a famous manga/anime about pirates. they also recently made a live action netflix adaption chronicling the early chapters.

i recommend reading the manga, it is quite excellent. the anime has awful pacing issues though. they are making a remake of it however to fix the pacing issues.

OH!
That explains it. Manga is great but not my thing. Could never get into it.
