The USSR had an ABM system to defend Moscow, but it's probably in disrepair. The US has an active one in the midwest surrounding a Minute Man battery of ICBMs.
Attempting to appease such enemies, unless you manage it through economic interdependence, is sheer folly. Note the corporate sector. How often go they go to war? Never, because doing so would be inefficient, unless a government is paying. That would be mercantilism. How often do governments go to war? All the time, because they do not have to rely on mutually beneficial transaction, or even diplomacy, as a matter of course. They absolutely will attack if they think they can get something out of it, because they're not the ones actually making or earning any wealth. The only thing keeping them in power is a focus on remaining in power.
Trump, whatever you think of his business acumen, is a businessman. He wants the US to have economic superiority first and foremost. This is wise, because it involves everyone's self-interest. To have that, business needs security, and since the US is the global hegemon, that means a strong military as well. Our ships police the world's trade lanes. Our aircraft promise swift retribution to any violators, and our dominance of space means that nobody gets any satellite service unless the US permits it.
That could certainly piss some people off, if they conveniently forget that the US is the most benevolent superpower the world has ever known. If they somehow forgot how dependent they were on US trade, and how gentle it is, compared to, say, any empire in history. The Brits were close, being very amenable to trade, but they also cut off a lot of trade or banned it to ensure they would remain at the top. It didn't work. Ultimately, their ability to support their globe-spanning military was lost, because their trade couldn't support it.
Trump is clearly aiming for more "fair trade" practices, and while I have issue with some of the ways he goes about it, he is preferring peace, and he is showing that. A defensive system merely makes the US exactly what the entire world needs: a place to do business with security.
The only problem is if that falls into the wrong hands, like those of the Leftists. It would give them a bastion to attack the world. But it's not really a unique problem, because they are already bent on global dominance, and if Trump doesn't take the initiative now, if he doesn't show how beneficial the market can be for everyone, they absolutely will use the security to actually threaten other nations. They already have, every single time. So have some on the Right. One way or another, nobody kills their own livelihood, and so the US is the best bet to create a better peace.
immigrants are still cool with donald duck and elon as long as they work for cheap!
I looked at it, and in the Soviet application, it had the potential to cover a massive area with a kind of "shield" (not really a shield) that would help deter warheads. At least in theory. The heat shielding on MIRVed warheads might interfere with such a technology, but only partially, but maybe enough to render the shield useless.
Modern PC gaming kinda sucks. I'm waiting for Nintendo Switch 2
i post here every day too, i just post in between games. it is fun, ay!
so think icbm carry 12 nukes go boom in low orbit you going to blind radar and mess abm
also i dont exclude using ground laser and ground radar to neutralize satellite in low orbit to cripple capacity to observe country from space, so without satellite you cut by half capacity to detect incoming icbm
What Trump actually wants is a way to keep Amercans IN the US and everybody else OUT.
And for once, I think its a GREAT IDEA.
Turning the whole of the USA into a maximum security prison with no-one getting in or out would solve a lot of problems for the USA as well as the rest of the world.
Go, Donald!
I blame the failure of the education system.
Then, suddenly, it was determined to be "unfeasible" and every aspect of it was unceremoniously dropped.
There were dozens of components that made up Star Wars, yet it was decided that all of it just wouldn't work.
But they never mention anything about the americans themselves
