But it might also be that we depend on more material things nowadays, and buy more stuff which we don´t need.
I guess it depends on the products - and on the manufacturer. Like You can´t really compare a 70´s car with a modern one. A modern one has far more gimmicks which can break, while an old car is a mechanical machine. It probably lasts longer without repairs, but it´s also less convenient.
like i worked on an 80386 for example and today's technology is way better, Even a pentium 4 or core i7 2600k.
A fridge will use less power than my dad's old beer fridge.
My TV uses less power and has better connectivity than my old 4 channel 21 inch crt.
I can go on if you want, like a car from the 1950's breaking down every fives minutes compared to something newer lasting ages.
But the old fridge last 30 years new fridge last 8 years
Stuff like that
That means shrinkflation, switching to cheaper materials/ingredients, cutting corners on R&D/Engineering/Safety, etc, etc.
So yes, stuff was better and more durable once upon a time, and now it's been downscaled due to greed, AKA
That wasn't an issue back then.
Isn't higher quality products more expensive though, like really expensive?
Also yeah I heard of cutting corners and planned obsolescence, but is this really in every product and creation these days?
Yeah i mean they try to stop users using XP or windows 7 from using steam, i think for the most part they did but that really sucks.
like Total annihilation ran well on my pentium 3 but i can't run a core 2 duo with xp on steam. (Well some people do try to get round things)
Japan is doing much better than the west for sure!
