If you could go back in time and change history what would you?
I think I'd stop the development of electricity.

Not that it would solve all the problems of the world, but it would pretty much mean that the Information Age would not exist.

Otherwise, maybe fossil fuels. Just use steam maybe. It seems like many of the worst developments happened at the end of the 1800's or early 1900's.

Caesar died centuries before the fall of Rome. You'd really want to target someone like Diocletian, Constantine, Valentinian I or Valens. It would probably be better to focus on destabilising antagonists like Alaric I, Gaiseric and Atilla the Hun.

It's definitely interesting to think about how much sooner the Industrial Revolution might have happened, had it not fallen.

They were getting pretty close to steam power about 1500 years early.

Yeah I was referring to the Senators planned to murder Caesar. Clearly the reader didn't read what I was saying. That took place long before the fall of Rome.

That's why always proof read first before responding.

history has been changed/deleted/rewritten many times and it will keep happening.
you don't need to go back in time, you just need to be in position of real power and have the need to change it. Newer generations will just learn the "history" you tell them and live the way you tell them to live in the system you set up for them.
I'd stop Biff giving himself the Gray's Sports Almanac in 1955

Calculus is the most intriguing one I think because it really would have changed everything. This is way back too, more than a century before Julius Caesar was even born, during the Second Punic War. Archimedes had done some experimental work that resembled calculus during his life... but he switched allegiance to Carthage and the Romans 'accidentally' killed him despite having orders not to. Oops!

this. I hate to bring up the latest assassins creed game but the devs essentially based their findings one guy wrote about and which he refused to disclose his source about Yuske. So a giant corporation is pushing a narrative they want based on research one historian wrote about with unverified sources. they are essentially changing history in real time.

I'd do something sentimental and self serving like trying to prevent a friend's death, and I'd really want to slap some sense into my teenager self (does that count as history? I don't care about changing the world at all)

Caesar was a brilliant General and tactician of his time. He also ruled Rome for appox. 5 years. If he wasn't murdered by senators, he would have ruled Rome. He became so important individual that every emperor bears his last name Caesar, thousands years later.

Kill Karl Marx.

Would not only prevent communism but would also prevent fascism and nazism from rising up in response to communism. :sniperskull:

You didn't give much to work with really.

So Caesar's assassins's don't kill him, but he had already adopted Octavian. So Caesar most likely dies a natural death within the next 20 years, then Octavian succeeds him becoming the first Emperor. So basically nothing changes. The Empire happens with all the same leaders. The Empire falls.

This is why I suggested directly targeting the actual fall of Rome (or rather, the actors driving it) in order to prevent it.

how about "forge" the juicy religious book so that usury is banned even among the gentlemen?
Anyone can edit wikipedia, why you acting like you need to time travel to change history.

If you wanna change history in more meaningful ways then just become professional wikipedia editor. There is always information that needs to be censored and altered to be politically correct and harmless to their democracy.
I wouldn't, I'd use it to make hindsight moves that I missed from history.

Wouldn't that be something! Have AI monitor Wikipedia and social media, including the news, and make subtle changes or write mostly plausible articles to gradually shift the public view on things. It could be happening right now!
I'd go back to 2006 and stop Sega from rushing Sonic 06
