I wonder if Kaspersky is still safe to use
It was a decent antivirus but has been banned by the US. I see that was more like a political ban than an actual risk. How do you think about that?

I wouldn't mind knowing too.

I removed it a couple or three months ago but the MS version does not let me personally filter any results because it doesn't flag them up. What I mean is there is no option I can see to turn on that function which I need.

If I get a problem I want the option to deal with it.

By the ways as I was uninstalling it I had a struggle with something 'like' a virus which took me ages to remove.

I have no idea what I can use now as Kaspersky did all I needed but was recommended to remove it.

If you don't mind a company that is under the laws of Kremlin having root access to your system. These risks are precisely the reasoning for banning them from the US.

Basically people are using iPhone and Windows PC with a lot of doubts too. We don't know if one day the government tried to access our devices without our permission.

i thought gamers were 'tech saavy' enough to not need to rely on anti virus software

I don't have to use antivirus on my gaming PC though. Just want to protect my private PC.
They were one of the best in the industry, and arguably still are. The problem is that they are in Russian jurisdiction, which is a potential US security threat.
Sad that such a good company is suffering due to geopolitical squabbles.

Should also note that customer data is processed in Switzerland.

They also allow people to check their source code, so they're arguably more trustworthy than the alternatives. Still banned in the USA though.
https://www.kaspersky.com/transparency-center

Kaspersky Transparency Centers are operating in Bogotá, Istanbul, Kigali, Kuala Lumpur, Madrid, Riyadh, Rome, São Paulo, Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo, Utrecht, and Zurich.

At Kaspersky’s Transparency Centers, the company provides the opportunity to compile its software from the source code and compare it with the publicly available one.

No other cybersecurity provider has done anything as far reaching as this. In opening its Transparency Centers, Kaspersky makes a significant step towards becoming completely transparent about its protection technologies, infrastructure and data processing practices.

Yep, I had no problems while using it until when it was banned. Now I just use Windows Security instead of a paid antivirus software though.

Actually I have more doubts if they make their source code public for real, as some hackers would get benefits from that.

is it safe? Yes

is it useful? well:
- if you run windows vista, windows 7 or Xp, yes, it's helpful
- if you run windows 10 or 11, there's no need for it

Thanks. I'm using Windows 11 and Windows Security has all of Kaspersky Standard features for free. I just want to use Kaspersky for VPN and real time online protection though.

it kinda is enough.

Let me explain in a very easy way to understand:

if you run windows 10 or 11, and SOMETHING does infect your machine, then you'd still get infected even if you had Kaspersky installed and running.
