i wear white socks, they reflect the heat from the sun on hot days, absorb any sweat produced by my feet and add some talc and spray to eat odours, if there are any, socks can also be useful when not wearing shoes, they can pick up dirt and washed off rather than directly on the feet and if there are minute injuries that can let in bacteria and other contaminants in without realising you have the injury, it's last thing you want are dirty feet.

Although it doesn't stop potatoes from growing between your toes if you leave it long enough, your feet remain generally clean. i wouldn't however recommend going without washign your feet past a few days because the skin around the sides and lower half of your feet will dry up and eventually you'll have to deal with peeling dead skin in those areas and the area just above the heel as that's a trouble spot for dead skin, especially later in life.

when it's cold i wear black socks to keep the heat in.

People don't really see my socks as they are covered by trousers, and if I'm wearing shorts then I wear ankle socks.

White socks are for casual situations like sitting around the house or grocery shopping, Black socks are for work/events/business like having job interviews or attending a Mozart play/concert.

And yet somehow I have more gray and brown socks in my drawer than I ever wanted, but I have no occasion/situation that demands their existence, let alone me wearing them.
