Why did they make Thanos stupid?
Kind of wondering, it took us humans about 60 years to double our population, from around 1960 to 2020, so what good would it exactly do to kill half of the population? I don´t really get that sort of reasoning, even my 8 year nephew pointed out that predicament with a rather bizarre statement I won´t quote here.

We are a greedy bunch by nature, in the comics Thanos does seem to have some level of intelligence. Not committing genocide and messing with fertility rates or perhaps another solution couldn´t have yielded any worse results than what Thanos came up with.

Kind of always wondered about that.

If Thanos really wanted to stop the population from growing, all he had to do was introduce affordable AI Companion Catgirl Robot Waifus.

Seriously, Futurama saw that coming from 20yrs ago.

That´s assuming the whole mentality of a single species changed overnight which is unlikely. Worked in a planet for some odd reason, definitely wouldn´t work on Earth.

1. Comics, movies based on comics and modern cinematography in general ponders to modern people looking for low-effort entertainment.
2. Bad writing by modern writers and enshittification of everything.
3. From character design perspective, Thanos is an alien and I don't think he cares about fertility rates of a random planet.

Well, since he cares so much about the starving on our planet I guess fertility rates isn´t far fetched but I do understand your sentiment given your first 2 statements which are true.

Comic book writers are stupid. That's why they write comics.
He just had a silly late night idea and thought it'd be funny to commit to the bit

What if they wrote a comic about beer & burger?

Because people who wrote it are stupid.

Thanos is an antagonist and not meant to be sympathetic. I stopped caring about what was happening in comics when I realised that genocide and the murder of yet another major character had become the main and only way to increase sales.

Just cut it in half again in 60 years. :htsmug:

His logic is kinda right and kinda wrong. Assuming the planet has developed technology and culture similar to a first world country, overpopulation wouldn't be a problem after the first culling. However, if the planet is not developed, then yes you're right

What's more foolish is using the infinity gauntlet to kill half of everything, because he could have doubled or tripled or even just gave everyone infinite resources. Thanos could have singlehandedly ended practically all strife forever, but didn't because he was so laser focused on his plan

Originally he just did it because he's a simp for Lady Death, but we can't have that, can we?

The population crisis doesn't exist, if anything it's the opposite, all these stores packed full of Christmas junk nobody is buying because the population mislead the retail companies which has lead to nothing but bankruptcy and debt.

Pretty obvious when video games can't get any populations of players either because the games are spreading out the limited population so thin.

I had a comic book back in 1972-ish that was a split comic.

The first half was the Hulk vs. the Abomination. The second half was a Silver Surfer that had Thanos in it. I didn't get the feeling he was all that stupid in that episode.

I guess it is how each person views him.
