WHY is there incest in Fire Emblem If/Fates?
So... a lot of stuff is on the internet saying the new fire emblem has the option for the protagonist to marry their blood siblings. WHY? And can anyone actually confirm this?

Even royalty took part in the act back in the day, thats how acceptable it was.
Yep, family needed to stay pure.

It's actually blood related now? Last I heard, the Nohr siblings weren't related to you by blood, and the Hoshido siblings weren't related/far enough away on the family tree where it was ok. Source?
Correct, the Nohr are not related to you. As for Hoshido, it is still grey as far as I can tell. We do know that the Queen of the Hoshido is your mother, presumebly by blood. Assuming the rest of the Hoshido children also have her as a mother, then that means that the Avatar (Kamui) and the kids are immediate family.
However, I didn't post this specifically to rant. It was to seek clarification. Because I am not 100% convinced that the main avatar actually is directly related. Several internet sources claimed so, but I didn't get anything definitive so I posted here to see if anybody had seen something definitive. Also, several sources thought it was possible the main avatar was not directly related to either side, but had their own (possibly dragon) origins. Sources includes serensforest and the fire emblem wikia. Any actual verification is appreciated.

yes people I know this happened in ancient and medieval times. Doesn't make it less creepy

Okay, that makes more sense. Definitely doesn't make it less creepy, but I get the feeling the potential dragon origins will try to smooth everything over. Because I seriously doubt, in this day and age, a flagship Nintendo series with blood related incest will actually fly, especially overseas. They would have to excuse it to make it seem "okay" (even though it's still hella creepy)

And I think if Nintendo hasn't officially said anything about the protag's origins, then it's probably a fairly big spoiler for the game. Most likely we won't find anything about it until someone plays the Japanese version or when the game comes to the west.

Agreed, I really hope Nintendo clears this up to make it seem less creepy. Because I would hate to think that anybody in a modern society would advocate such... inbreeding :P

Don't look at certain current royal famlies then.

I didn't say it doesn't happen. But just because something occurs in this world, that doesn''t make it ethically correct. And I would hate to think my favourite video game may actively condone it on a much higher scale than previously done

Didn't past Fire Emblem games do similar stuff such as that?

Just because it exists in a game doesn't mean the devs condone it. By that logic, 2K and irrational games condones segregation and racism (Bio Shock Infinite).

true.

I argue that in FE's case it is different. Because as I see it, this really isn't something that is crucial to storyline or anything. In which case it is kind of a weird fan service
