It's not fake news. Both reports are true. They have reproduced 20 of the genetic traits of the Dire wolf. In particular size, muscle build and fur, so it's really going to look like a Dire wolf. But is it actually a Dire wolf? No. Because it only has twenty traits.

They need to see if it can breed with a wolf or dog, if it can, it really hasn't became a separate species yet. Although some species currently can do that, so they really need to work on the definition or classification of these exceptions.

Also, extremely hyped up to the degree you wonder if they were desparate for funding maybe? I dont see a purpose, but idk.
