concert experiences
I just got back from my first real concert (Tyler The Creator's Chromakopia Tour) and i can only describe it as life changing. maybe for the worse because i will forever be chasing the same emotional and spiritual high that i got tonight at the concert.

so i wanted to ask, what are your absolute favorite concert experiences you've had in your life? or even the polar opposite, ones you hated to death?

favourite live music i have ever attended was at the "tbilisi open air" music festival in 2022. i did not really recognise too many of the artists, but the shows were powerful, if a bit intimidating because of how many peoples were there.

least favourite, the same festival lol, but on day 2. because at one of the concerts my group and i were way too close to the stage and got trapped by the crowd behind us. so we had to stand around and wait for hours after it was being over because it took so long for the crowd to disperse.

i am glad that the experience was so impactful for you. but do not worry, many concerts are highly different in their performances. most artists are having their own special "flairs" that are unique to them that you will not be readily finding at other concerts.

I've seen U2 46 times, JAMES 7 times, Young the Giant 5 times, Naked and Famouse twice, Sara Evans once, Diamond Rio once, the Garden once, Hitsujibungaku once, Silversun Pickups 3 times, Steel Panther once, FIXX twice, O'Sees once, Alvvays once, Paul van Dyk once, Kaskade once, Cypress Hill at the Big Smokeout once, Garbage once, Strokes twice, Utada Hikaru once and so forth and they have all been different experiences. I also have thousands of front row photos and setlists from a lot of these shows.

I enjoyed almost every one and I'll be seeing more shows starting next week.

One of my most favorite shows were JAMES at Tempe, AZ in 2012, U2 at Kansas City in 2001 and U2 at Norman, OK in 2009. But I saw so many good shows so that is very subjective and not definitive.

Alvvays blew me away in December of 2023 by how amazing they were live. And Hitsujibungaku from Japan were just awesome on December 14th.
I used to work with concert organising (left that client last year). It's a good experience to see favourite performers live.

My favourite would be Blackpink and Taylor Swift but I had a few VIP backstage experiences with DJs and pop stars. It's nice to see how down to earth many of them actually are.
Other week I took my daughter to see the K Pop group 'Ateez' at the AO Arena in manchester, UK. Im not a fan of the group but my daughter is and watching them live was a experience.

I still had a headache three days later from all the girls screaming endlessly. But good night overall.

Here is some random video from the event I found on youtube

Pink Floyd Live at The Great Hall, Bradford University, Bradford, Yorkshire, UK 10th October 1971

I was there. The band had speakers set up at the back of the auditorium for "surround sound".

Over the years of my course, Saturday night bands included Moody Blues, Deep Purple, Atomic Rooster, Yes, and many more original groups .. no cover bands. I also saw ELP live St Georges Hall Nov 25th 1972.

In London, Hyde Park free concert 1971 – Grand Funk Railroad, and others. The sound wasn't great as the breeze created soft and loud moving patches.

After seeing a band on Saturday, I would often go into town the following week to buy a vinyl album by the group I'd seen.

Dang! showing my age again!

Moody Blues and YES would have been something to see.

I think I got to see U2 at two of their highest points in their career since ZooTV. The Elevation tour fed off 9/11 on its final leg and became something almost vital at that point. And the 360 tour was something amazing on so many levels even when the technical parts of it were malfunctioning. I missed the Joshua Tree, Unforgettable Fire and ZOO TV tours (too young).

46 times? i commend you as a committed fan but i am not sure i could view the same artists live performances 46 times lol. are their live shows very different experiences from show to show?

some like deadmau5 and daft punk would usually be making it a point to make every live show they do very unique and different, so it is never feeling boring for hardcore fans who are wanting to follow them on tours.

Each U2 show had a different vibe and sometimes a different setlist arrangement or song(s) they hadn't played in many years (Stay (Faraway So Close)) or rarely (Zooropa/Your Blue Room/When I Look At the World). They fed off the energy of the arena or stadium and some venues had less energy for one reason or another and you could feel it. But when it was lit it was lit. I'm in the 360 Rose Bowl concert BluRay briefly and a lot of photos taken from the mainstage and outer catwalks during Elevation, Vertigo, 360 and the Innocence+Experience tours. So even if I forget all those great memories someone will still know I'd been there even if they don't know who I was.

very cool. it is probably being one of the ultimate "buzzkills" when the crowd is just not feeling it. i know every crowd is different and not all will be having the same energy levels, but hype crowds at live music events are incredibly fun. and if the artists are being good at "engaging" the crowds to be part of the performance in some way, even better.

hah, yeah? was that concert televised? perhaps you were briefly on tv!
Too many to mention or remember all.

a few highlights

Pink Floyd - Olympic Stadium in Montreal Animals tour, they played in order all of Wish You Were Here, followed by all of Animals and the encores were Dark Side of the Moon.

Insane experience, too much to say. I should probably write a book about that one concert.

Pink Floyd - Olympic Stadium in Los Angeles Another amazing experience

Seen plenty of symphony and classical music concerts as a child. Opera etc. Good for training the ear.

NIN many times - halloween show in Philadelphia stands out with Marilyn Manson and Jim Rose Circus

Front Row for Yes in the round on the union tour but seen them a few times

Front Row for Roxy Music in Camden NJ. Incredible performance, age only improved them like a fine wine.

If I tried to list them all I would fill out pages of stuff.

King Crimson

Robert Fripp
Saw this tour. Live sound was amazing, recording can't do it justice with the separation of instruments and how they interweave.

Amazing performance of Happy Rhodes on the Warpaint tour.

Peter Gabriel

It was shown in LA and streamed on their YouTube channel uncut but I didn't see the concert video until after I bought the Blu-Ray.

The 360 tour was really engaging. I remember the "Claw" which was based off the design at LAX which looked like it belonged in a gotcha machine. They built two identical stages to skip over each each other in cities. One would be at the show while the other was being set up at the next show. And after the one that was set up at the next show was set up the one from the previous show was already being set up at the show after the upcoming show. Smart. They used over 40 semi trucks to haul each stage from stadium to stadium.

Saw Motley Crue play as “The foreskins” at the Marquee club in London in 1991 and was lucky enough to see Ozzy play a small gig at the same venue.

Favourite gig is a toss up between Goldfrapp at Somerset house in London or Arcade Fire in Manchester..
I bought tickets for a 50Cent concert in Germany.
This was going to be my first live concert.
A few days before the concert i got corona…
I hate concerts. I hate crowds, I hate tight spaces, I hate loud noises, and all to see my favorite bands perform worse than they do in the studio

You're obviously listening to the wrong bands then.
