If A Different Actor Was Tony Montana In Scarface?

How would the movie have fared if a different guy was the main character instead of Al Pacino? A more obscure or unknown actor for example. Speaking of which, why was Al Pacino picked?

if i had to guess, al pacino was most likely picked because of his very famous roles as a gangster in the godfather. he had already "shown his chops" so to speak in acting for such a role. so he was likely sought because of this.

in the movie he doesnt look like ganster, but more tactician leader with strategic mind

micheal corleone is smarter than tony montana, we never see him fall in drug or destroy his own life, tony montana totally lost his mind when he killed his best bro and dig in his own cocaine

honestly i think the differences between michael corleone and tony montana just shows what a good actor al pacino is. despite both being men working in the criminal underground, they are extremely different as you say.

corleone is strategic, thoughtful. montana is brash and violent, doing things impulsively. al pacino is a great actor, to play such different characters so well.
