Many Americans like to think the US is number one and that Israel is just a "tool", but in reality, it’s Israel that sets many of the terms, and the US backs them up. Consistently prioritizing its relationship with Israel, even when it goes against what might be best for the US itself.
Look at how Tucker Carlson refuses to say anything bad about Israel, constantly repeating "I love Israel." It’s honestly sad to watch someone with such influence be so openly loyal to a foreign nation, even when it goes against the interests of his own country...
