That show sucks. I thought it would be cool, but I couldn't make it through the first episode. It's r-rated, yes, but the jokes are clearly made for edgy 11 year olds.

i think you are needing to enjoy the critical role dnd series to appreciate it (i have not seen either). but i believe it is being based on their characters from one of their campaigns if i am not mistaken, so it is really supposed to be a lot of fanservice and such to fans of CR

And I like D&D, Fantasy, and Adult Cartoons.

i can understand this. i think it is important to, im struggling to find an english word, match? match maybe, with the personalities of the players of the campaign in order to really have fun watching it. you are needing to have similar styles of humour and such

I don't even understand the R rating other than the fact they wanted to show a pair of tits on the first episode because they assume sex sells. Fair assumption, but the R rating and the tone of the show were really just mis-matched.

Personally, I only watched like 3-4 episodes. It wasn't my thing. That DnD movie with Chris Pine was much more to my liking, and I could watch it on netflix where speed controls exist (so a 2 hour movie only takes 1 hour to watch).

I struggle when I play D&D as a player as well because the storytelling and world just feels too loose for me. I'm an avid reader. So my brain has this expectation for fiction. And when it's as loose as it tends to be even when done at a master level by Matt Mercer... I end up losing interest.

yes, i can appreciate this. i am an avid reader as well, reading is my favourite hobby. so i can understand being "let down" by such soft fictions where the rules of the setting are too "loose". i have done a few dnd campaigns myself and while i definitely thought this, i still had fun.

and i am preferring a more "grimdark" and "ruthless" setting like berserk or warhammer anyway, which most people are not liking. so it is difficult to find a group for such a campaign :P
