A few trends in Sci-fi/Fiction/Fantasy I have noticed.
- Dark Elves and Light Elves being considered the same and akin to Dwarves.
- Giants and Gods being equivalent also.
- Fiends and Angels being equivalent in OCG (new Light Fiend type archetype forshadowed in my recent YuGiOh pulls).
- Aliens/Androids/Engineers is Aliens universe becoming more similar also, and passing these abilities onto humans also who may all be androids at this point too.

Thoughts?

Yea, it is getting homogenized.

Here's what I learned as I tried to break through and sell fiction and get published...

Amazon is massive for books.

There are many guides and resources on how to start off as a fictional writer.

Most of those guides tell you to lose your ego and put out trash like you're describing to get a foothold. They will tell you to make books that follow market trends. Those market trends are why you see this homogenization and lack of creativity.

It's kind of similar to massive gaming companies and how they try to market analyze what ideas will be profitable so we always end up with these weirdly samey games from AAA studios.

Once they are established, then they can start to be more risky... and even then it's only if they want to. A lot still choose to put out what they know is going to sell well.

And that, Doctor Robert Neville, is the right answer. Or however that goes, lol.
You can just say "Ben Cortman is a friend from work." (Thor Ragnorok and Ballad of Ricky Bobby references, lol).
Haven't "light" Elves and Dark Elves always usually been considered the same species, but different races within it?

Giants and Gods probably comes from Greek mythology, where the Titans predated the Gods, and were overthrown by them.

Yes. In Norse myth there are Light Elves and Shwartelves (Dark Elves) as well as Dwarves and Svartedwarves although less distinction is made here. In Grecian myth there are Typhon and Gigantes (two races of Giants) as well as Titans and Olympians (two races of gods). There are two races of gods also in Norse myth, Vanir and Aessir as well as two races of Giants with elemental connotation, fire and ice as well as various woodland nymphs embodying the air and water elements (this begins to bleed into the Mediterranean world and Russian world with tales of witches and Pan-Baccus).

This is more to do with cosmogonic myths than a modern trend. There are countless stories of ancient beings whose death/corpse would make up the universe. I think this was mentioned in Judaism also, the primordial gigantic beasts of Behemoth, Leviathan, and Ziz were doing just fine and happy until Yahweh showed up.

i think it is dependent on where the media hails from.

- light elves/dark elves: in western media, often kin but separate races. in eastern media, they are the same but simply different skin colours

- giants/gods equivalence: already mentioned by others, but this one is not so new. giants/gods are very commonly being similar/the same in many mythos

- fiends/angels: this one is being more religion dependent. in some religions, fiends/demons/daemons/etc are being fallen angels. in others, corrupted humans. in others, corrupted angels. in others, simple monsters. this one is being very varied

- aliens/androids: i guess i do not really see the similarities of this one appearings much in media personally
