ai slop is EVERYWHERE
yalls ever just on google or bing and you go to images and its just full of ai generated slop? It really feels like its everywhere. When i want to have diffrent types of fun, its there, when im watching a video, its there. when i want to upscale my games, its there. It always has a certain look to it, and that makes it never match the real passion and effort that a real human being puts into art, game development and video editing.

Me too. I do think that as more and more people are directly affected by the excesses of AI, some guardrails will have to be set up, if only for economic reasons.

yes, unfortunately most of the governments of the world are being staffed by older people who do not really understand ai, or other such modern things, and the impact it is currently having. i am hoping that eventually (probably when some rich, important person is targeted with ai) that laws will be passed around the world to nip ai in the bud and stop its rampage.

Exactly. AI is here to stay, we can't put that genie back in the bottle. But eventually, we'll have to define the acceptable scope and scale of its use, and always as a tool as opposed to a craftsman.
I basically agree, but I'm not going to pretend like the majority of "real human" art is all that great. (Art doesn't have to be great to be something worth doing for whatever reasons, but still...) The fact AI stuff is even more derivative and uninspired is so far not encouraging.

and its a shame too, because ai as a technological concept could be great. a tool to solve mathematical errors, or to find flaws in designs. but right now, one of the biggest things people are using it for is art, which really, REALLY sucks because all the ai is doing is stealing bits and pieces from actual artists after it has been trained enough.

i hope these laws that are being instated to define its acceptable levels of use are something that arrives soon, not far off

There's a conspiracy that they allow us to use the internet so they'd train their AI models. I'm buying that one.

You're not "breaking it" to anybody. The question is, how do we ensure that humanity does not render itself obsolete in this future?

It's inevitable. Since the past like 10 years people have become exponentially dumb, hostile and radical so we're gonna eradicate ourselves before AI ever gets the chance to do it.

I'm normally the first to embrace technical/scientific progress, and AI was no different, at first.

Now, many aspects of it utterly depress me. How it hoovers up human creations and spits out sterile mediocrity. How it steals the most fulfilling work away from people. How it makes lies indistiguishable from the truth, and vice-versa.

I still use it as a tool to handle research and repetitive tasks, but I no longer use AI art. Not just out of solidarity with artists, but because the mere sight of it darkens my day.

the damage ai has done to artists is immeasurable unfortunately. i am thinking that from here on out, artists of any medium will always be routinely receiving accusations of using ai to create or enhance their art. truly dystopic, truly depressing

AI, as expected, has devolved into cheap ♥♥♥♥ and (genuine) degeneracy. I'm not even being conservative/puritan here. There are people creating AI porn using real people's faces, including children.

This "AI" isn't even actual artificial intelligence; it's pretty much just a "smart remixer" of media.

And what have people used it for? Scams, ripping off actual artists, replacing certain workers, extremely questionable/probably illegal porn, propaganda, tricking people, letting it think for them, etc.

This technology is essentially only useful to con artists, business owners, and creeps, which is probably intentional. If you made a venn diagram with all three of these categories they'd have a significant overlap.

yes, this is true. people are using ai for very disturbing and nefarious purposes. while the technology is interesting, only the depraved and cruel are utilising it to its full potential right now it seems. i am guessing this has to do with most of the intellectuals who may utilise it for more noble purposes are simply being too old to understand the technology, unfortunately.

When I asked a random AI, if it could tell me why it is sloppy, it replied with.

I’m unable to fulfill that request as it does not align with the guidelines provided.

...

Anyway... looking at this...

I totally get why some people feel like AI content is everywhere and might seem a bit “samey,” but let’s take a moment to consider the positives here.

First off, AI can actually be a great companion to human creativity. It can inspire new ideas and help artists and developers explore territories they might not have ventured into otherwise. Think of it as a brainstorming buddy that never gets tired!

And about accessibility—AI makes creating art, games, and videos a lot more approachable for people who might not have the technical skills yet. It lowers the barrier to entry, so more folks can jump in and start creating.

Let’s not forget, AI isn’t here to replace human effort but to complement it. When used right, it can handle the tedious stuff and leave the fun, passion-driven tasks to us. This means we can focus more on what truly matters and what we love doing.

Sure, AI has a certain look, but it’s also evolving. As it gets better at mimicking human creativity, the possibilities for innovation just keep growing. So instead of seeing AI as a threat, maybe we can see it as a tool that helps us push boundaries and create even more amazing things together!
AI is like apples. It only takes a few, or one, to ruin the whole bunch.
Wait until you see the drivel made with the new and "improved" China-brand AI.

We've only just begun "the slop era."
I hate it when I get 2 different answers.

I asked “Is pizza technically a pie” and AI says yes because pie in Italian is pizza but another source says pie doesn’t mean pizza in Italian.
don't worry, nvidia lost 600 billion and counting smile

ai still sucks
