Which type of racing game do you prefer?
Which type of racing game do you prefer, and what is your go to example?

Recently I've noted a trend in racing games. There are two types- Event, and Criminal.
One, you race for a racing event and everything's specifically above the law, other games, not so much.

Forza/Forza Horizon- Event
Nightrunners- Criminal
The Crew- Criminal
The Crew 2- Event
Rally 2.0- Event
Wreckfest- Event
NFS MW- Criminal

All the newer racing games are almost exclusively events, and it kinda sucks because sometimes you do wanna race the streets and feel the thrill of a classic police chase. So are you an Event racer or a Criminal racer, and what's your go-to racing game?

Same but it only took 20 minutes to get from the east coast to the west coast in the game. To bad that couldn't happen in real life in a car.
My dream racing game would be the idea Microsoft had with the latest Flight Simulator games, and would let you race using the entire world -- every street, every house, every dirt road. Anything that's on Google Earth. Working fuel depletion, gas stations, cop chases, all that. Race from my house to your house.

Burnout.
FlatOut style games. I suck at driving, but I enjoy wreaking havoc.
last racing game i play was nightmare kart on steam. really great game, bloodborne style mario kart game. free too! i suppose i am preferring this type of "silly" racing game over more realism ones.

I tend to go for the Need for Speed games. I know other games now have licence to bring in real make and models of cars. But when the first Need for Speed was released on the PSx, it blew my mind that I could drive a Lamborghini Diablo and know that the makers of that game worked pretty hard to make the car as realistic as they could. So you were not going to jump into a Porsche 911 and fly down the road at 250mph with a Toyota Supra keeping up with me or even passing me. They worked to keep the cars within the bounds of what the real cars could do and attempted to match how that car handled.

NFS Porsche Unleashed was unbelievably difficult.

Worst I've played was Driver. Where you had to pass an impossible driving test before you could even play the actual game. Seriously, I have to do a 180 degree reverse powerslide into a parallel parking spot before I can even play the game? Worst. Videogame rental. Ever. :steamfacepalm:

I remember a game where you can race random people in the open-world by flashing your lights at them to initiate the race or similar.

So my answer is open-world street racing. :yetuhappy:

I loved NFS: Porsche Unleashed. I still have my physical copy of the PC version of that game. It was hard but I think that is what made it really fun, for me at least.
any remember the racing game "blur"? it was something of a fusion between realistic racing games and more cartoony ones such as mario kart, with items and powers and such. i never got a chance to play that one, but i thought it looked interesting.
For Arcade racing - burnout

You can do it in Forza Horizon
Als it's not criminal/event -

It's story based or just racing.
