I hope I can still be a real gamer
Arch is for try hards who think something being complicated makes it superior.
It's already snappier than both of them. Or Debian 12 which I was maining right before this.
I won't disagree in that it is for tryhards- but Arch did just unzip a file probably twice as fast as any other distro. It really is lightweight and well formatted.
I installed Hyprland on fedora before i wiped it and it didn't really seem like it was for me. I like my floating window puzzle.
If I was to use Linux, it would be Mint. I like having a GUI like Windows. Easy to use and easy to learn the names of other packages/programs that Windows has.
Buuuuuut... I don't like needing to screw around with Proton layers when I want to play a game.
I've done the whole Arch thing before.
KDE- the DE I am using- is also very much like Windows and more powerful than the cinnamon DE that Mint ships with.
KDE is what Steam uses on their Deck's desktop mode .
Yeah, but I don't have Steam Deck and don't need one when my PC would eat the Steam Deck for a snack.
It's also a massive pain to get emulators working on the deck.
Regardless- everything is easy on Deck if you know what you're doing.
Valve was intentionally trying to get people used to Linux because Gabe hates WIndows, or so the conspiracy goes.
I prefer how simple Windows is with everything I do. Games just work unless they're really old and require some additional files. Proton layers can be a real nightmare.
Linux- the grass really is greener over here.
Windows isn't perfect.
Very green since Mint is green and mint is very minty, and green.
After using Debian 12 and Arch though , it felt a little bloated . Both of those distros are pretty lightweight .
It is very snappy using a distro with only the minimum installed
Mint is what I recommend to anyone who is curious about Linux, but I also warn them that it isn't as simple as Windows 10 or 11, just in case they want to scream at me later for not being able to install stuff the same way.
Is Arch still command line based or do they have a GUI now?
Surprisingly enough, I've had 0 issues with Windows 11 and RAM usage is only about 30% with nothing else open.
I did it manually last time, but this time I used the script and it worked like a charm.
Even let you pick a Desktop Environment and extra packages you may want.
Loaded up with no issues as easy as Mint after executing it. But you do have to start the script and understand what it is asking.
Windows RAM usage is fine-
I am using 8% of my 64gb~ of RAM with this browser + 22 tabs open + a few other smaller apps on Arch
