Malwarebytes for on-demand scanning individual files.

Is it more useful than Windows Defender?

I use the one of my internet provider (modified version of Norton 365)

you can also scan files on a site called virustotal, just keep in mind that it can give false positives due to the sheer number of antivirus software they use, and that it has a file size limit

but yeah, windows defender + malwarebytes is a good combo

Literally every anti-virus solution requires an online download. What are you even talking about?

Yeah, installing malwade on your PC before someone else does without your consent may be a smart move.

Does the free MWB version have limitations?
Pocahawtness 10 de jan. às 3:28
I don't use one.
I have learnt how to not get a virus in the first place!
Psycho 10 de jan. às 3:32
i'm just using the one that came with all the other files when i first booted up my PC
Jingshen 10 de jan. às 3:36
I just have Windows Defender and it works well for me. I do not download dodgy software from dodgy sources.
Top Cat 10 de jan. às 4:29
Me neither - but viruses and pups etc come with legit software so more fool you.

Panda Dome. It's free, doesn't require you to sign up or create an account, and has a pretty complete suite of options. It has resident scanning with a process monitor and behavioral analysis. Also on-demand scanning. It has a VPN and automatic updates. It's also really lightweight and doesn't nag me with pop-ups like others do. It's probably the best AV I've ever used.

People still use malwarebytes?

This. Don't visit dodgy sites and don't use a P2P downloader like Frostwire, or Limewire, or whatever the latest popular thing is. Torrenting is like opening the blast door of the internet and letting every bad thing onto your machine.

I've seen idiots try to say this isn't the case but it's baked into these programs. P2P means peer to peer. They treat the files on your machine like they are local files on their machine. It's what allows you to exchange files. You're giving them direct access to your machine.

The most infected PC's I've ever seen were infected because they were torrenting.
