Why can't the earth be flat???
I'm wondering...

how rare, another globe believer telling us to look up to prove the shape of what's under us
they look up and then say that proves the shape of earth under us, globe believers are so scientific lol, and they call it "proof"
When you look down what evidence do you see the earth is flat?
I see a nonmoving level place.
Then you guys tell me to look up to have "proof" of the shape of the earth which is under us, it doesn't make any sense. Not sure why globe believers think that is proof, maybe they were told about that and they just repeat it

Youve never experienced a hill? or a rock? Where is it youve been thats so level?

Why wouldnt it make sense to take a look from a different prospective?
I went to Cleveland, Ohio. Why can't I see Detroit from a skyscraper? I mean.... they're only about 120 miles apart from Lake Erie. Explain.

yes, there are mountains, hills, valleys, lakes and oceans
it's all level
Everyone knows it's a disk on a turtle's back, on top of another turtle...

That’s not true. Try bouncing a ball on a hill. It will go down the hill

Not everywhere.
answer . . . becuz it's too fat

MASA
So Wikipedia felt the need to produce a page with "empirical evidence" for the globe.

Pretty much all these have already been shown to be inadequate in this thread- let's have a look:

-visibility of distant objects on Earth's surface;

Nope

-lunar eclipses; & appearance of the Moon;

This is like circular reasoning- We know the Earth is round, therefore the eclipse is coming from a circular shadowprint from the Earth

-Observation of the sky from a certain altitude;

Nope - a curve does not mean a globe! WHY WON'T THEY SHOW A PHOTO OF THE ENTIRE GLOBE AND HAVE TO FAKE IT? Surely with NASA's budget they could have taken a real photo ages ago?

- observation of certain fixed stars from different locations;

Nope

-observing the Sun;

Nope

-surface navigation;

Nope

-grid distortion on a spherical surface;

Nope, try harder?

-Weather systems;

Possibly not covered in the thread but looks like another case of circular reasoning. The Science claims that the round shape of the Earth creates the icey conditions at the poles because they are farther away from the Sun, which in turn creates temperature gradients along the surface of the planet which in turn creates weather.

However::steamhappy: The distance of the Earth from the Sun compared to the size of the Earth makes the difference in distance of the poles and the equator from the Sun infinitesimally small so could it really be making such a large difference on the temperatures on the surface?

-gravity;

Nope

- modern technology.

LOL, we have moved a long way from "empirical evidence", did you even notice?

see the turtle of enormous girth
on his shell he holds the earth
his thought is slow but always kind
he holds us all within his mind
on his back all vows are made
he sees the truth maynt aid
he loves the land and loves the sea
and even loves a man like me

Seems like we need to make a giant plastic straw to take it down

Dude, ignore the monkey business and focus on the debate, don't get personal.
The idea of a flat Earth contradicts several well-established scientific concepts, particularly the principles of gravity, rotational motion, and the laws of physics. Let's explore the main reasons why the Earth cannot be flat:

1. Gravity and Its Effect
One of the strongest pieces of evidence against a flat Earth is gravity. According to Newton's law of gravitation:

F = G \{m_1 m_2}{r^2}

Where:
- \( F \) is the gravitational force between two masses,
- \( G \) is the gravitational constant,
- \( m_1 \) and \( m_2 \) are the masses of the objects,
- \( r \) is the distance between the centers of the two objects.

In a flat Earth scenario, gravity would pull objects straight down towards the surface, but on a flat plane, the force would vary at different points. Near the edges, gravity would pull objects at an angle toward the center, causing distortions and inconsistencies in how objects behave. However, on a spherical Earth, gravity acts uniformly toward the center, explaining why we experience gravity the same way no matter where we are on the planet.

2. Earth's Rotation and Centripetal Force
The Earth rotates on its axis at approximately 1670 km/h at the equator. This rotation would not be possible on a flat surface because of the physics of rotational motion. The Earth behaves like a rotating sphere, and due to this rotation, there is a centrifugal force acting outward from the axis of rotation. This force is balanced by gravity on a spherical Earth but would create significant problems on a flat Earth, as the forces wouldn't balance in the same way.

For a rotating object, the centripetal force required to maintain circular motion is given by:

F_c = \{m v^2}{r}

Where:
- \( F_c \) is the centripetal force,
- \( m \) is the mass of the object,
- \( v \) is the velocity of the object at a point on the Earth's surface,
- \( r \) is the radius of the Earth's rotation.

On a flat Earth, this centripetal force would not have a consistent direction, and the distribution of this force would be uneven, resulting in problems with objects' motion, including the behavior of the oceans and atmosphere.

3. Coriolis Effect
The Coriolis effect, which is responsible for the rotation of weather systems, is another key indicator that the Earth is not flat. This effect arises because of the Earth's rotation, which causes moving air masses (like winds) to be deflected to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. If the Earth were flat, such a deflection wouldn't occur in the same manner, and we would not see the large-scale weather patterns that we do, like cyclones and trade winds.

4. Observation from Space (helpful for less educated people or kids )
We can directly observe the Earth's curvature from space, and this evidence is in line with physics. Satellites and space stations have taken pictures and videos showing the curvature of the Earth. The horizon appears curved, and as you rise higher in altitude (like in a plane or from a high mountain), you can observe this curvature directly.

5. The Horizon and Ships (again for less educated folks/kids)
If the Earth were flat, you'd be able to see a ship, for example, even if it was far away on the ocean. But in reality, as a ship sails away, it gradually disappears from the bottom up, with the hull disappearing first and the mast last. This phenomenon is consistent with a spherical Earth, where the surface curves away.

In conclusion, the laws of physics—particularly Newton's law of gravitation, rotational dynamics, and the Coriolis effect—prove that the Earth must be a sphere (or an oblate spheroid, more precisely). The force of gravity, consistent observations, and the behavior of motion on Earth all align with the idea that the planet is round, not flat.

Thank you

oh the theory of gravity
they crate a theory where a ball pulls stuff down, then they say earth is a ball because the theory of gravity, nice reasoning. It seems your ai is also programmed to regurgitate the same talking points of the "education" system
If you ever played around with shadows using a lamp and a wall you will know that even small things can make a big difference in the shape of the shadow you are casting.

When you ask questions The Science admits that the Earth is not really a perfect sphere but is bulging out at the equators because of centrifugal forces (LOL) which apparently override gravity.

However , when we look at eclipses we see perfect circles- if the Earth was not perfectly round it would not cast a perfectly round shadow unless it was egg- or cigar- shaped and illuminated from one end along its vertical axis.
