uwu , also stylized UwU, is an emoticon representing a cute face. The u characters represent closed eyes, while the w represents a cat mouth. It is used to express various warm, happy, or affectionate feelings.
Ohh I thought it was flashing - the w was arms up in the air.
I mean I used to do make those as quick chats on MH when dealing with certain people
n[]nn -_- nn[]n
I just thought it was a quick an easy version of that - considering flashing is anyways.
Anyways.
initially when confronted with this, i thought it was some type of slang / linguistic i hadn't yet understood. it was painstaking to separate the thought that it was a word or phrase, and is actually just a different style of lettered emoticon.
the vods of streamer girls crossing their eyes and saying it was really throwing me off my game linguistically lol. (hammer's inner thought: WHAT ARE YOU SAYING, MUSE? YOU MUST BE TRYING TO SUMMON A DEMON.)
good times.
seeing as you know some lore, would you happen to know when it first started showing up in the western hemisphere?
i looked it up lol
2005
uwu is an emoticon that dates back as far as 2005. The exact origin of the word is not known, but it is speculated that it first appeared in Internet chat rooms. The first proven use of uwu is in the Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction Genie of the Puzzle, published by user DaakuKitsune on Oct 14, 2005. By 2014, the emoticon had spread across the Internet into Tumblr, becoming an Internet subculture
well, i appreciate your effort.
