As far as people who truly are simping... it's probably a lack of confidence due to poor life decisions.
And plenty of people think gaming cause brainrot like porn.

Simp is both a noun and a verb. The contemporary usage of it in noun form entails someone who is basically a willing & devoted follower or servant of another, who may or may not be their friend.
There's also an implication of unrequited love coming from the person labeled as the simp.
They are usually considered pathetic and to be wasting their life but different people find fulfillment in different things. If they're doing it because "eventually she'll recognize how much I care and see value in me and care for me too" then yeah... he's wasting his time, probably, and it's not healthy - but if he can accept that she's actually probably never going to choose him, and chooses to live this way with a genuine smile anyways, then I don't see the issue.
People have different values and interests.
For some people, it's because they want something from you, but not all of them.
Some people genuinely just like helping others and making them smile, and spending time with you. Depending on how devoted they are - yeah, they probably have a crush or something but if they can accept that they might not be with you and respect your boundaries, and seem to actually genuinely enjoy being there for you, then this isn't actually a bad thing, imo.
Some people like having power, and some people like supporting others - there's little to no explanation for why this is when it gets to the core of it - it's probably in their genes somewhere (whether someone desires power or genuinely prefers to be in the support or healer role) because your terminal goals are the things that you want... just because you want them :

Actually i would say you have to take a chance because how else are you meant to "know" someone.
That's part of it, at least. Want simp to go back to being what it meant in the 90s and thus being someone who farts in a bathtub? Then understand we live in a society that is broken and needs mending and proceed to get on it, doggone it.
