I agree. I remember playing Amnesia The Dark Descent back in 2012. My lights were off and my headphone volume was up. I was so scared. I think I wet my pants.
Dark Decent was really creepy. The Justine addon(free) was even more horrifying.
But I seem to have blocked what it was that made it so terrifying.
Interesting post.
Did you find Amnesia the Dark Descent scary?
One of the only times I was genuinely spooked playing the game, that I will go ahead right now and admit, that after getting to the basement over and over again and running out of tinderboxes, I just went into the game file that has the values for the various elements of the game and gave myself infinite ones lol.
I still played it with all of the lights off around me, with a blanket over me, and even with infinite source of light it still blew my mind as an incredible horror game
I really want to try The Bunker. Looks interesting. Played Machine for Pigs for a bit, didn't finish it though since I was trying out the game at a friend's and we decided to play a game that was less confusing to switch back and forth with. I would be the one trying to find out where to go next, we would switch places if we had to reset, so often it would be me at peril running between tasks
Also, In Sound Mind is such a good horror game...that I haven't even finished it yet. The creepy girl in the supermarket that reminded me of The Ring but it kept attacking me...and then the guy that devours everything and turns it into a completely dark empty void...and then there were two more levels and I was done. I got to the third level, saw what I was likely going to deal with, and was done.
Yes there is a cat you can pet and it purrs and I think also will meow, but that's in your office between all the intense stuff and it's just not...enough. I would want to just be in the office area but idk how to beat the game like that. xD
Rebirth
Skip the others. Especially Machine for Pigs
Great atmosphere, ambience, story, voice-acting. An amazing leap in quality from the guys who brought us Penumbra.
The others are just walking simulators. The Bunker enraged me at how overrated it was online. It was no different mechanically from early FNAF games.
