If we use the Cann system.

Planescape: Torment

Baldurs Gate 1 (mostly due to nostalgia)
Baldurs Gate 2

Kotor & Kotor2

Divinity: Original Sin 2
Fallout 2
Fallout 1

Pillars of Eternity & Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Torment: Tides of Numenera
Icewind Dale

Disco Elysium

NWN
Pillars of Eternity 2

Wasteland 3

Shadowrun HK
Divinity Original sin 1

I did not include everything, just a few selected ones, I also did not rank BG3 yet, but I think it might go rather high. Could have added a lot more, but this will show some of my bias I guess.

Yeah for me crpgs are more the hardcore rpgs where you also have to learn the system behind it. Many games call themselve rpgs like cyberpunk which is basically an action adventure with a few rpg mechanics. Same for ubisoft games

Most people confuse what cRPG and games with RPG elements are. I dare say most of what people call RPG´s are often not.. ie. various Action Adventures.. Sometimes we do see rather simplistic Action RPG´s (like modern TES games)

cRPG´s often take homage to the tabletop origin it stems from and plays with known system or new ones that still entail the core elements of what makes a cRPG a cRPG.

Yes. I know what you mean. All the games you mentioned have an underlying arithmetic system (or algorithm) which is results in gameplay based on chance, rather than actions having a predetermined outcome.

I don't mean to derail the thread, but.. Just what's CRPG supposed to mean?

In the olden days, it used to mean Computer Role Playing Game. Today I dare say, it is most often called Classic Role Playing Game.

Games like BG are build on D&D´s tabletop system (2.5) back then.

Yeah i always see them as games like that just without a dungeon master
Neverwinter Nights had a "dungeon master or game master" multiplayer mode, making it the only true computer role playing game. (Or at least, whatever comes closest to the original game.) The others do not have that.

By that argument, Solasta is also a "true" Computer role playing game, by your definition.

But with that argument, we could also just stop making cRPG´s at all, because with D&D One, you will be able to build your own scenarios digitally and do everything digitally..

(extra hint, if you wanna see some of the changes so far "they can change many times" you can try them out here https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/one-dnd )
anyone having problems comprehending "crpg" first of all should familiarize with "pen and paper role playing game" concept. "crpg" supposed to help set expectations right as: 1. no video game ever will be able to incorporate all the free style aspects of a pen and paper rpg. 2. it implies usage of computer graphics.
Well crpgs gives you the most options when it comes to actually roleplaying but the complexity scares many people off. They are basically letting you write your own story and give you many dialogue choices with actually consequences. Skyrim for example is one of my favorite games but per default it’s more an action rpg but very immersive. With mods you can turn it into a full fleshed rpg tho

i'm one of those people. true pen and paper role playing experience never seemed attractive to me. all the possibilities whether being game master or not to me seem overwhelming and even anxiety inducing.
