Pope's fashion choices
Why does pope attend to his looks more than a high-school girl? All the fancy hats and glimmering buildings and walking staffs and whatnot doesn't seem to agree with the humility of Jesus and his teachings. (Or any religion's teachings for that matter.)

not his choice, i imagine. the vatican, despite endless amounts of drama and unearthed abuse, spends a great deal of money to ensure that the church at least "appears" to be a very high class, clean organisation. the pope wearing the finest garments, being well trimmed and manicured, this is part of the "look" they are going for. he is a "man of god", so he presents himself what the church believes men of god should be. well dressed, well spoken, well cared for.

Well, mostly being a man of god will result in bankruptcy, since it's almost impossible to become rich with honesty. But sure being well trimmed and clean is good, however he's walking around with gold hats and staffs which is overkill lmao.

i do not disagree. if anything it makes him seem less like a "man of god" when he dresses and is treated like royalty, and more like a god himself. if anything he should be walking around in plain robes and rags, to be humble. but something tells me either the church does not realise this comes across as arrogant, or they do and just do not care.

There is a long tradition behind it. The clothing is primarily for presentation purposes and rituals. It must not be practical or useful in any way. A pope doesn't need to bend down or anything. It should show everyone that he is above worldly things. He is a living icon of a ritual shepard.

hmm, but would he not be more "above worldly things" if he dressed in only plain, cheap garb? i feel like dressing like royalty, tradition or non, conveys the opposite.

It would be more credible, but certainly not effective. ,-)
