Elections to the German Bundestag - Whom will be the big winners?
Wellcome to the German Election 2025 thread on steam´s off topic.

As the title suggest, in this thread we will talk about the political elections in Germany this sunday and then try to talk about whom might be win, loss and so forth.

First lets talk about the system.

List of parties (that are realistically large enough to make a dent) in Germany

Who are the candiates?

Alice Weidel - AfD
Friedrich Merz - CDU
Olaf Scholz - SPD (The current Chancellor)
Robert Habeck - Die Grünen

I personally think that we will see CDU take a landslide victory and that Friedrich Merz will end up as the next German chancellor. CDU already have a power politician in Ursula von der Leyen whom is the EU Commission president,

Then we have AfD, they will most likely have a pretty good election, but I don´t think they will gain any overall influence as nobody wants to work with them and hence even with a good election, they will not really gain much.

Die Grünen will see a huge decline and they will be the big losers of this election along with SPD, whom will also see albeit a slight degression in influence.

I also predict that we will see no große koalition this time along... but you never know what might happen ofc.. I predict we will see less smaller parties that get influence...

So what is your predictions? Do you think this will change much for Germany?
Are you German? if so.. do you wanna talk about your own experience or even whom you vote for and why?

Have a good election all Germans.

Elon Musk have started to post on X, that he think all Germans should vote AfD

This tells us all about what state the US is in.
is the us also "nazi"?
are there "nazis" in this room right now?

The point is that a influential person in US politics voice an opinion about a German election and that they think people should vote for a National Conservative party like their own supported American party (The Republicans)

It will be interesting to see what happens.

I gues 30% CDU 25% AFD thats 55% of the people wanting a right leaned Politic

And what we will get is a 20% Green 30% CDU woke left Politic.

thanks to the firewall there was no Right leaning decidion since 2015 und thanks to Merkel even since 2005

and that is a good thing
No, that is facism or a Dictatorship.

Nobody was talking about him.
Rather we were talking about how foreign powers try to influence an election in a certain direction.

The Green Party is not really there as anything else than an outsider that can gain influence via negotiations.
But bear in mind, that if the Green get less votes and we see more minor parties getting votes, this could lead to a situation, where you need to go for a larger allience to form a goverment and that is not a good idea often.

I would be surprised if Merz does not become chancellor, but then again... you never know...
Whom do you think will "get the throne"?
It´s not the Green party which would lose to the minor parties. The "problem" of the green party is that they don´t do the ads as the others do. They think elections are about rational arguments, and about working along the international and national agreements. While of course being environmental friendly. Like they´re not good in communicating stuff. For example they made a law, about heating, and got much hate for that - but they didn´t say that they simply took an older CDU proposal, which would have come anyways, besides other details about it - and they sold their ideals...

The minor parties gain votes, because the people run out of ideas whom to trust. Like if You look at how the parties do the ads nowadays - it´s like the Green talk about hope and future, the SPD against the CDU, the CDU against extremists, the AfD against the established parties, same as the BSW, the FDP against the Greens, and the Left for more social equality. In times of social media, it works better to talk against each other - rather than with each other. But the latter is what democracy is about.

It´s easier to negotiate with some strong head of the state - than it is with a parliament. Also i think that Europeans don´t think that every US American is in favor of Trump politics, or with Musk´s points of view, who is obviously in it for his own benefit, and that of his investments. And the simplified "us" vs "them" are rather right wing talking points, because they´re better at being emotional to make up for the lack of rational arguments and objective analysis.

Also all what was said is that the AfD has Neo Nazis in their ranks - and that they are fine with it. But somehow this simple fact offends AfD people - while it wouldn´t even be an argument, if the AfD would at least verbally distance themselves from these people - but instead they either say nothing, or say that they also have good and valid points...

I mean your version of AfD already won in your own country, is that not enough?

I don´t really think that is what happens if you play the AfD tune.
Voting is about to end (at 18:00 CET) and then we will start to see various exit polls.

It will be interesting to follow.
AfD looks like to gain less than first predicted. But almost 20% is still a large margin.
Seats if the current exitpoll was the final result

CDU: 211

SPD: 116

Die Grühne: 98

Afd: 142

Linke. 62

SSW: 1
I support Friedrich Merz.

as a german, do you believe cdu will be willing to cooperate with afd? if i am not being mistaken, cdu is centre-right, which is certainly not even close to afd on the spectrum, but still.
