No good sci-fi series anymore
It's been a long time since the glory days of Star Trek and Stargate. I just bought the boxed set of star trek ENT to gift my dad because he doesn't subscribe to any of the services that show star trek. I think it's CBS now? And the new CBS star trek sucks.

Disney owns Star Wars, and the new Star Wars sucks. Stargate is just dead.

Is there even one good modern day sci fi series that has good plot and characters and isn't filled with sex scenes or politics?

Even mid-tier sci fi series like Andromeda and Farscape don't exist anymore. (I love both but the acting and plot just wasn't as high quality)

The last one I personally enjoyed was Dark Matter (2015 by Joseph Mallozzi) but my parents didn't really like it. It was admittedly a little too edgy compared to the more intellectual and family friendly sci-fi that old school Star Trek had.

Is the golden age of sci-fi TV series over? Is it all bad superhero movies from this point forward?

Also I know there is new Dune movies but I like the 1984 movie better. You can't beat the quality acting in that one. They had a smash-hit lineup of actors. I might see the new movies if I can get the DVD's in a discount bin.

I kind of want a new IP, with good writers and a good director that won't inject politics and unnecessary sex scenes into the series. (I can dream)

sci-fi was never good, there's only so much you can do before it gets boring, this is why nobody makes them anymore, everything's already there.

scifi is good when it maintains reasonable limits. scifi stories featuring entire galaxies and interplanetary travel often feel "too large" in scope, they are being spread thin and everything feels surface level and less developed. scifi stories that take place on one planet, perhaps even one country or city, these are being the best to me. go read stories by isaac asimov

but i prefer fantasy overall because it is usually not having this issue, only developing one world/countries and not really having to worry of "too big scope".

Tried to watch Discovery, agree it was disappointing, stopped after the 2nd season. Then read Tracy Abrams was president of earth, could not stop laughing my stomach hurt!

The Expanse
Terminator the TV show was pretty good.
Love Death and Robots, stretching.
Secret Level, stretching.
Fringe
Eureka
Resident Alien

Yea, it is pretty bad if this is your thing.

I noticed you stuck to more techy science fiction, but there are good shows under science fiction that aren't like that...

The Strain
Haven
Walking Dead was massive
What we do in the Shadows

Stuff like that.

You didn't mention Babylon-5; that also aged well. Although, if you consider Farscape to be a bad show...

And if you can get away from "space", there's modern Doctor Who. I wouldn't recommend the classic one, though.

Also, "superheroes" are essentially SciFi as well, just with a different paintjob, and also based on Earth.

Ever seen Screamers?
Outer limits goes scifi too a lot
there needs to be a distinction between Science Fiction and Science Fantasy. too many people make that mistake and it's been destroying the genre of Science Fiction.

resident alien is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hilarious and i am so beyond happy that it was saved from cancellation. alan tudyk is being one of my favourite actors of all time, he is also great in firefly/serenity (another scifi series) and tucker & dale vs evil.

love death and robots has a lot of "bad" shorts, but that is the beauty of anthology series. you are not really needing to love and watch every short, can just skip the ones you do not like and try the next one.
