No good sci-fi series anymore
It's been a long time since the glory days of Star Trek and Stargate. I just bought the boxed set of star trek ENT to gift my dad because he doesn't subscribe to any of the services that show star trek. I think it's CBS now? And the new CBS star trek sucks.

Disney owns Star Wars, and the new Star Wars sucks. Stargate is just dead.

Is there even one good modern day sci fi series that has good plot and characters and isn't filled with sex scenes or politics?

Even mid-tier sci fi series like Andromeda and Farscape don't exist anymore. (I love both but the acting and plot just wasn't as high quality)

The last one I personally enjoyed was Dark Matter (2015 by Joseph Mallozzi) but my parents didn't really like it. It was admittedly a little too edgy compared to the more intellectual and family friendly sci-fi that old school Star Trek had.

Is the golden age of sci-fi TV series over? Is it all bad superhero movies from this point forward?

Also I know there is new Dune movies but I like the 1984 movie better. You can't beat the quality acting in that one. They had a smash-hit lineup of actors. I might see the new movies if I can get the DVD's in a discount bin.

I kind of want a new IP, with good writers and a good director that won't inject politics and unnecessary sex scenes into the series. (I can dream)

The Battlestar Galactica refresh was also pretty good, worth checking out as well. That chick who played Starbuck, dang...
I think you could extend that more broadly, and say there haven't been any good TV series at all for like ten years.

At best, you get one or two decent seasons on HBO or Netflix with like eight episodes per year, then it turns to ♥♥♥♥ like Westworld or True Detective. All I hear now is now crappy Strange Things and the Walking Dead are. Last thing I watched I loved was Chernobyl, and that was a measly 5-part miniseries.

Episodic TV is basically dead.
Foundation is pretty good! Beacon 23 was alright. Love, Death and Robots AND Secret Level where really good. Invasion wasn't bad either.

Apple trying to adapt Foundation deserves credit, if only for the chutzpah.

I'll take Star Trek Strange New Worlds. I guess you could try the Dune series.
It's absolute garbage. I had to sit through four episodes of total cringe before I just had to accept that Star Trek died ~25 years ago.
I like the orville.

It is not bad if you don't take it serious, stopped watching it after it went to a streaming service. The same reason I never watched the Foundation series.

The Expanse I have watched, but stopped right before the last season, I felt the killed off the best character, and the series lots it direction once the ring was activated.

The Expanse is a good one...

Rapidly turns into garbage as it drags on and you notice its fixated on a tiny cast who some how are basically the only important people in the world. Worse when its the solar system and the projected population of many billions of such colonization makes it even worse.

Also tainted by ugly, and when they go through the portal it just jumps the shark entirely.

Star Trek now fails because its fans and creators won't grow up.

Extra funny now that we know Stacey Abrams stole 2 billion in tax money through Biden, this is who your Star Trek cast is now.

One of the big issues I have with the new Star Trek is they didn't keep the old costumes for alien races.

TNG and DS9 klingons are what klingons are supposed to look like. They did look more human in TOS, but that was explained away with a virus that was killing them off, and humans were able to cure it using some of their own DNA. The cure changed them to look more human, and once the virus was eradicated they went back to looking like real klingons again.

Now that's all just a big runaround to the fact that TOS had a low budget and "aliens" were just actors in funny clothes. TNG and DS9 had more budget for costumes.

Those costumes should belong to the franchise, and the argument "but the costumes belong to the costumers and they didn't hire them BLAAARGH" well CBS has money, and Star Trek is a big name IP. So cough up the money and BUY THE RIGHTS TO THE COSTUMES.

Nope.

This goes back to the owners of the IP not really caring about the IP at all. The fans care, the owners just want money. So they hired the cheapest people to make the cheapest klingons, which look different from the previous klingons, and we're supposed to suspend our disbelief and just accept the new artistic direction.

Except I can't. TNG and DS9 gave us delicious chocolate cake, and I don't want this lemon meringue pie.

If they want new Star Trek to be successful, then it needs to be run by people who are passionate about the IP and will pull out all the stops to give us the same quality and experience that was given to us 25 years ago.
Shrug, well I liked Picard series aswell.
if you want the good stuff. ya gotta dive into indie and anime or wait for AI. I have seen some very good short films on youtube that are top tier. :smoking:

Yeah you should try Helldivers 2, because I can remember there was definitely no intimate relationship scenes between Helldivers I dunno about the politiks though, since most Sci-Fi media or video games always have been political. (like Star Trek and Star Wars)
