At best, you get one or two decent seasons on HBO or Netflix with like eight episodes per year, then it turns to ♥♥♥♥ like Westworld or True Detective. All I hear now is now crappy Strange Things and the Walking Dead are. Last thing I watched I loved was Chernobyl, and that was a measly 5-part miniseries.
Episodic TV is basically dead.
You gotta mix it up with Stargate and Farscape..

The Expanse I have watched, but stopped right before the last season, I felt the killed off the best character, and the series lots it direction once the ring was activated.
Rapidly turns into garbage as it drags on and you notice its fixated on a tiny cast who some how are basically the only important people in the world. Worse when its the solar system and the projected population of many billions of such colonization makes it even worse.
Also tainted by ugly, and when they go through the portal it just jumps the shark entirely.
Star Trek now fails because its fans and creators won't grow up.

Extra funny now that we know Stacey Abrams stole 2 billion in tax money through Biden, this is who your Star Trek cast is now.

One of the big issues I have with the new Star Trek is they didn't keep the old costumes for alien races.
TNG and DS9 klingons are what klingons are supposed to look like. They did look more human in TOS, but that was explained away with a virus that was killing them off, and humans were able to cure it using some of their own DNA. The cure changed them to look more human, and once the virus was eradicated they went back to looking like real klingons again.
Now that's all just a big runaround to the fact that TOS had a low budget and "aliens" were just actors in funny clothes. TNG and DS9 had more budget for costumes.
Those costumes should belong to the franchise, and the argument "but the costumes belong to the costumers and they didn't hire them BLAAARGH" well CBS has money, and Star Trek is a big name IP. So cough up the money and BUY THE RIGHTS TO THE COSTUMES.
Nope.
This goes back to the owners of the IP not really caring about the IP at all. The fans care, the owners just want money. So they hired the cheapest people to make the cheapest klingons, which look different from the previous klingons, and we're supposed to suspend our disbelief and just accept the new artistic direction.
Except I can't. TNG and DS9 gave us delicious chocolate cake, and I don't want this lemon meringue pie.
If they want new Star Trek to be successful, then it needs to be run by people who are passionate about the IP and will pull out all the stops to give us the same quality and experience that was given to us 25 years ago.
