AMC lawsuit has resulted in upgrading everyone's free membership to Premiere
Personally, I didn't even know there was a lawsuit in progress, but apparently the terms of the settlement is that AMC has now upgraded everyone who was an Insider Member (free membership) to Premiere status for 12 months. Apparently, the lawsuit was in relation to them I guess not disclosing in the beginning that a convenience fee would be applied to the purchase of online tickets. So Premiere basically lets you waive the online convenience fee if you now buy a ticket. At least for the rest of this year until next year February.

With the fascists screwing with consumer protection agencies, I'm being extra-cautious about unsolicited "special offers."

Eh, it's not unsolicited. They basically sent people an email letting them know their Insider membership has been automatically upgraded to Premiere for free for 12 months. You can cancel it after that and go back to Insider if you want. You don't have to do anything on your part. Although if you never had a membership with them to begin with, then this doesn't affect you and you're free to ignore it.

. . . . why are people paying subscription fee to a movie theater?

That's like preordering games that has digital download.

The only one that MIGHT be worth it is the A-List, if only because it lets you see I think 3 movies a week or a month for free. But since you're already paying $20 a month, they're not really "free" and if you don't watch that often, it's a waste of money.
So I just found this out and checked my amc app and I don’t have it, am I supposed to do something cause I’ve had the free subscription for a long time so I should’ve been part of it right?

Generally speaking, yeah. It should show you as a premiere member when you check your subscription status. I'd contact them if there's any issues, as there's nothing we were supposed to do on our end. At the minimum, you should have received an email letting you know that they're upgrading everyone who was a free member to Premiere.
