Why are wages so high in the US v Europe?

Generalizing here, but my role (sales) in the US would pay 3x my European wage, is it just the cost of living?

It entirely depends which part of Europe you live in. Some countries in Europe have higher salaries than the US, some have lower.

Part of it is to do with exchange rate, but part of it is down to the standard of living in the country.

Take-home pay tends to be higher in the USA because more things are paid for in Europe by taxes whereas in the USA you are expected to get insurance.

There is no such thing as a "European" wage. They are Romanian, German, Liechtensteinian, Swiss or Bulgarian ones.

Norwegians, Luxemburgers and Swiss certainly earn more than thy typical American retail worker.

Do you understand, what an insurance is? Do you?

Of course we pay for it and wo don't do it "out of our collective asses". We still live comfortable lives. The system works so well (apart from minor details of course) that not a single party in Germany, not even the most radical ones on either side of the spectrum, would dare trying to abolish it, because it would be political suicide.

Everybody, EVERYBODY, who is for "free healthcare" understands, that it means "free at point of service." NOBODY will ever claim, that no one is paying for it. Stop it with this demented strawman. It's stupid.

What we get in Europe is the security of not being ruined financially by having an severe accident. I had multiple medical procedures, which would have cost at least 50.000 Dollars in the US and might have ruined my life. It didn't because I had to pay exactly 0 Euros for it in that moment, because for my whole life, i paid insurance fees, that still allowed me to live a VERY comfortable life despite paying those fees.

If it´s about a comparison between Germany and the US - it´s that the American worker earns like 10% more, because they work 33% more hours, besides other things like missing social security, or work contract and time laws...

And the wages in Germany are probably above average in the EU, or Europe for that matter.

The two are different things.

It is paid for by tax, yes, but the services are free - even to those who do not pay tax.

It's a waste in your opinion, but not in the opinion of 500 million people in Europe who enjoy those free services.
