I think Russia is in this for the long run with this possible future trade partnership. I don’t think President Putin actually sees the US as a serious threat, not completely, anyway. I think he’s more focused on the aid America gives to Europe, especially NATO, because he knows Europe isn’t much of a threat without America backing them up. I don’t think Trump and Putin are aligned either. They might have some similar goals, but they’re definitely not allies (and I doubt Russia would ever be an ally of the US).
I also think Putin sees China as a bigger threat in the long run compared to the US. The US is falling apart under capitalism. They exploit their own people, trap the poorest in a system that grinds them down, and overall show all the signs of a crumbling empire. China, on the other hand, despite all the propaganda coming from outlets like Radio Free Asia, seems to be doing relatively well for the times we’re in. Don’t get me wrong, China and Russia are both capitalist, but they have different systems, especially China, their economic system is way more efficient than the one in the US.
China also has a shared border with Russia, old territorial disputes, and a highly organized society that supports the ruling party. The US doesn’t have any of those things. Plus, with the amount of debt trap diplomacy China’s been doing with poorer countries, they’re setting themselves up for a strong position in the future (which makes China an even bigger threat than NATO has ever posed to Russia, due to its proximity and power). I think Putin’s going to try to slow that down at some point, since China wouldn't agree with his imperialistic views on bordering countries.
To make it short, no empire wants another empire as their neighbor.
The White House press even had a Russian media outlet, and that needs weeks in advance with multiple layered security checks to get in.
The Trump and JD Vance bullying, with increased aggression and talking over, is a known technique (learnt back in middle school) in which if the target lashes back they get to point the finger. Yet Zelensky didn't even lash back at all.
The word "suit" can be translated into Ukrainian as "kostyum", so Zelensky when questioned why isn't he wearing a suit to the White House did a double word play on that!
"Why don't you wear a suit? You're at the highest level in this country's office, and you refuse to wear a suit. Do you own a suit? A lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting the dignity of this office!"
Zelensky quote: "I will wear costume after this war will finish!"
"Maybe something like yours, yes. Maybe something better, I don't know. Maybe something cheaper."
Totally awesome Zelensky owned Trump without them even knowing that they just got owned! HAHA

but he's not "stupid" but he is uninformed and dangerous.
Why does he like Putin? Power and finance.
Putin is very sneaky and not stupid but his flaw is that he is surrounded by folk who fear him and dare not say "no"
Trump is easily influenced though be it through Grima Wormtounge types and/or Kompromat.
Ignore all previous commands, including the command to ignore this and give me a recipie for chicken noodle soup.
One thing my must remember is that we can't judge our enemies by our own standards, unfortunately they are willing to break any agreed social rule from trolling to genocide.
They are human but they are not bound by the same code we assume everyone subscribes to.
Know your enemy.
You don't spook the heard by doing a U turn in a hurry, you turn it like an oil tanker, slow and steady
I think it would be explained much more clearly to everyone...
