Why do you play games you dislike?
I have noticed that there are a lot of games people play that are either mixed in reviews or mostly negative, but people still purchase, play, and give hundreds or more hours of game time. Not only that, but if that game has a series and that game has been bad every time with each release, those same players still continue to purchase that game.

I don't understand.

Individuals feel differently about different aspects of a game. General opinions bring mixed doesn't mean every one person is mixed about it. Some people just like what they like more than they dislike what they dislike, other people just dislike what others like because of differing standards or expectations for what they want out of a game.
I don't play games i dislike. If i dislike a game like say AC i won't buy it or play it as it would be a waste of money to me.
Sometimes you have to play a game and understand it's mechanics to see why it's less than ideal and for some games that takes a long time. Other times, a poorly done update can change a game from amazing to awful.
Mod community and the mods they make for games. Like for 7 Days to Die.
sooo many mods...that make it good.
sometimes a game will change after you've played it for 1500hrs, and the developer makes a very poor update- thats a valid reason to start hating.

developers often overcook their games these days. no need to judge people for telling the truth.

Because Hate can blossom into love.

A game treating you badly can become something you like, as well.

Interesting question! Because I have done that. I really didn't like Guild Wars 2. Yet I have always told myself "I WILL reach end game". About a year and a half ago, I think I played 16 hours. I still think the game is an overrated WoW clone with very little setting it apart that makes it particularly special. It's got a few things going for it- Every MMO does, but I don't find any of it particularly big enough to get the praise it got.

Similar thing going on with Tales of Berseria. I beat it on hard, played it for 80 hours. Hate the game. But I love the characters, and how they banter, and get to know each other. Something other games don't really do. so I put up with it. It's very rare for a game to spend such extensive time with it's characters while also not being the primary focus.

Where on earth to you get this idea from. Making crap up and simply speculating is not clever, at all.

Not about being clever. It is just what I have seen with certain games. You offended or something?
Reviews are worthless. They shouldn't even be called reviews.

competitive purposes.

i played eve online for years just settling unfinished business, long past enjoying the game anymore.
I play League of Legends but I don’t recommend that game to anyone. Trust me… you’ll be better off not playing it.

Why I play it is because I’m a masochist.

Dota 2 is the same. I recommend it in the same way I'd recommend smoking crack. Yeah, you might have a good time, but it'll ♥♥♥♥ your life up an alienate you from everybody you know.
