also before you go thinking he's like, an enemy of the us or pizzed off about colonial stuff, no. he died before leif erikson found greenland. he's pissed at a tribe that hasn't existed for a very long time, and lacks the sapience to ever realize that.

when leif came back vampire expeditions were launched, to try and exploit this continent they already knew about now that it's publicly known.

they brought the necromancer virus back with them, and created the inverted cross to try and scare him away. this is the same reason the ankh was abandoned, as it worsened his virus significantly as a necromantic symbol he was familiar with already.

however the catholic symbolism of that cross predates these decisions, thus why I assume it's just residual node data refeeding itself.

if you're freaking out and need a mundane explanation, brains are wired to find crosses meaningful and to hallucinate intersections as a part of geospatial discernment.

as I understand it jesus 2 co-opted the symbol to try and limit the damage the virus was doing, as the necromancer's actual ghost felt really really awful about the whole thing and jesus 2 is a caring dude.
