"Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name, and done many wonders in your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'"

Take the worst aspects of medieval Europe and throw in a spoonful of neo-Nazism.
Parasites, too. They call liberal democracy degenerate, but they're happy to exploit it to achieve their goals.
With something like this, it's hard to say what his state of mind was. IOW - If he was being hounded by outraged people, some of which had already showed up at his property and some chanting "your house, my choice" which he could interpret as a real threat, it's understandable that he was at least afraid.
But, IIRC, he opened his front door.
At that point, "self-defense" may not be applicable.
If she tried to prevent him shutting his door, then I'd have to say that's an overt act on her part and escalated the encounter to a "threat." He used non-lethal means, which is a point in his favor, but is also likely "battery" considering the use of pepper-spray. It's up to a jury, IMO, but I do think people need to understand that she went to his house and was not delivering punch and pie... He will likely, justly, be found guilty.
I think the dude is scum, but he's got rights, just the same. He also has the right to a trial, too, just like everyone else.
