For decades there has been a myth that crabs and other shellfish cannot feel pain. This has justified barbaric behavior like boiling them alive and cutting off their legs while they are still alive. Humans inflict unimaginable pain on hundreds of billions of other animals without a second thought, yet whine when they experience the smallest discomfort or inconvenience.

Sure, I agree with the point of the initial post I guess (if it's true, I didn't click the links yet), which I wouldn't doubt at all. Not one bit. However, it's difficult to say that shellfish and animals like that have the same amount of awareness that mammals and birds have. Same with the crazies who compare fish to mammals and birds, sometimes its folks who don't even care about animals but just are pushing that "species bias" BS like how Neil DeGrasse Tyson expresses. Not saying OP is suggesting that or anything.
