Drinking age 18 or 21?
Do you think the MLDA should be 18 or 21?
I have long agreed with a MLDA of 21 at least in the United States due to the strong dependence on motor vehicles as a form of transportation. It has been shown that a MLDA of 21 reduces the number of underage drinkers and saves lives.

Looking to hear about the opinions of people here. What do you think?

My favorite old timer line is "If you're old enough to die, you're old enough to drink!"

So it should be the same age as anything to do with the military - minimum

Well, here in my country you can only drive when you're 18, the same as drinking.

I think if the US wants the minimum drinking age to be 21 that they shouldn't be accepting soldiers into the military that are 18-20. I understand the reasoning for the age being 21, and don't necessarily disagree with it, but if our country expects people to risk their lives for it at such a young age than they should also allow those same people to drink. 🤷

Well if there is no drinking legal age...then technically there can be no underage drinking. Issue solved right?

A serious Answer though...I don't know what the best Idea is. But ideally if there is less dependency on Cars drunk people don't need to feel as tempted to Drive themselves. Especially with Good Access to Public Transportation...just a Thought

Completely valid perspective and you bring up another important conversation. In that case would you consider raising the minimum conscription age to 21 or lowering the drinking age to 18? I can see benefits and downsides to both.
25.

It won't stop dumb younglings from drinking underage anyway.

It's certainly a difficult question. I feel like I would be more open to an MLDA of 18 if we were less dependent on cars and had competent public transport that a majority of people used.

Honestly I think you still just hope nations will make the right decision individually based on their culture and other factors. Idealistic? ...probably lol
IDK started drinking when I was 11. My dad took me out to a pizza place and got them to serve us both... with parents I guess it's OK

He was probably thinking it was better to drink than do something that wasn't legal that might reflect worse on him.

In the end the place started to serve me when I was alone, then I started to bring my friends in for after school pitchers. I moved away but heard that the place finally got busted for serving minors.

In the end I quit drinking in my late teens. Only drink once a year or so, like a beer with pizza at a restaurant or something.

So, from my experience, you should probably allow 5 year old kids to drink to they get sick of it by the time they can drive.

On the other hand if you made drinking illegal then you could save all those lives as well. Actually peanuts kill an unreasonable amount of people each year they should probably be made illegal first.

Well if you consider the over population issue maybe we should just let people do whatever.
I think we should raise the age to 40 because even grown adults are still not responsible.

I feel like you have to strike a balance between protecting young people and adult prohibition. Age 40 is effectively prohibition and that didn't end well the last time we tried. I would figure at that point we would see a huge spike of straw purchases.
*18 if you have an ID that isn't a licence.

I'm over 21 and have never really had a desire to drink but it kind of seems wrong that the government basically forces drivers to sell out non-drivers by giving States road funding that only drivers can use if they make it illegal for both groups to drink.

*I actually kind of think the age of majority should be increased to 20 but as long as it's 18 in (most of) the US it should be 18.
I've always thought it might be a good idea to breath test younger adults (e.g. aged 18-25) and limit the amount when out in venues. Likewise to restrict quantity in shops. There will be a lot of loopholes though such as buying for a friend or binge drinking prepurchased stock but it might at least assist in some moderation.
21. 18 is too young for alcohol in my opinion
You might as well make the “legal adult age” 21 at this point. I can serve the military, make NSFW, legally change my name, use dangerous equipment at jobs, skydive, but cannot drink???
