Drinking age 18 or 21?

Do you think the MLDA should be 18 or 21?
I have long agreed with a MLDA of 21 at least in the United States due to the strong dependence on motor vehicles as a form of transportation. It has been shown that a MLDA of 21 reduces the number of underage drinkers and saves lives.

Looking to hear about the opinions of people here. What do you think?

I think 18 is enough but then 21 is just a few years more and it's not like anyone really need alchohol to live.

True but people don't need 8%-10% higher road funding to live either, especially if they don't always have permission to legally use them.

True but people don't need 8%-10% higher road funding to live either, especially if they don't always have permission to legally use them.

Needed or not the states aren't going to give up that funding.

Tyranny of the Majority. In order for one group to get more funding for roads that it's literally illegal for another group to step foot on both groups can't drink until they are 21.

Isn't that why alcohol was re-legalized in the US in the first place?

It's not good for you, but I would not stop people from drinking if they literally choose to.

If they're old enough to order a drink, they're old enough to drink. Especially if they did serve in the military. Some countries will throw people onto combat before they actually allow them to drink alcohol. Yet if they get shot in combat, they'll get morphine.

Yeah, okay. Since it's so many double standards, I would legalize everything. But...people have to sign documents about "if they are found under intoxication of X, Y, or Z, and injure someone or kill someone, penalties are greatly increased, up to N years in prison"

Another thing to consider is that before they were essentially forced to make the drinking age 21 a few States didn't allow licances to be used as ID if you were under 21 but over 18 or whatever their age was, essentially under a certain age you can either drink or drive but not both. I think that's a lot better then saying you can't drink if you are under 21 wheather you can drive or not and all for the sole benefit of drivers.

I would say that it was mainly thrown in there to encourage all the states to raise the MLDA equally. This in turn prevented people from crossing state lines to purchase alcohol.

It's 18 in my country. But, I think it should have been 21.
