Some people are literally born to be contortionists.

Others have to go through years of painful conditioning to "open up" the joints.

In Samus' case, she was injected with Chozo DNA to give superhuman physical prowess. But the Maru Mari is a technological function of her powersuits.

There are some theories that Samus herself doesn’t roll up while the suit is in ball form. She simply crouches into a small cockpit while maneuvering the suit. This theory makes the most sense of how she is able to know where she is going so well.

Samus actually shrinks down to fit in the ball, and controls it with one of those hamster wheels.

Best theory, change my mind.

I'd recommend against it.

Science Team is attempting to reverse-engineer Samus Aran's arsenal, based off of data acquired from her assaults on our forces. Progress is slow, but steady. Command would dearly enjoy turning Aran's weapons against her. We believe we can implement Beam weapon prototypes in three cycles. Aran's Power Suit technology remains a mystery, especially the curious Morph Ball function. All attempts at duplicating it have ended in disaster; four test subjects were horribly broken and twisted when they engaged our Morph Ball prototypes. Science Team wisely decided to move on afterward.

I could never figure out how they decided they needed it. They're always on the other side of every obstacle anyway. Even in caverns with literally no way in or out except for doors that are sealed by requiring specific weapons or abilities. I think they just spawn there, I dunno.

Samus Aran is the only human to know how to become a ball like Sonic the Hedgehog. :sonicmaniasonic:
